Paddy Doherty 'Gypsy Wedding' scenes to be cut by Channel 4?

Channel 4 bosses are considering cutting Paddy Doherty's scenes from the upcoming Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.

The Daily Star Sunday reports that Doherty, who joined Channel 5's revived Celebrity Big Brother on Thursday, has stunned Channel 4 by leaving filming for the latest series after two episodes.

"Paddy was by far the most memorable and interesting character on the show. Everyone was shocked when he left," a source claimed.

"Producers are scared it won't make sense if he just disappears after a few episodes so they might have to scrap all of his scenes," the insider added.

Big Fat Gypsy Weddings was a huge success for Channel 4 earlier this year, becoming the broadcaster's most successful show in years when it peaked with 8 million viewers in February.

Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 10pm on Channel 5.

Gypsy wedding aired a few months ago on TLC for Canada/USA, I watched it and enjoyed the show it was interesting to learn about a new culture. In Canada as far as I know we don't really have gypsy's in the literal sense but we have different areas of the country and cultural groups which encompass some of the traveler traits such as Mennonites (keeping gender roles separate) and migrant workers (mostly from the East coast travelling West for oil work).
The popularity of the Gypsy wedding show in UK is what sparked it to be aired in USA and there was a call to try and start an American Gypsy show which could be interesting, I didn't even know there were such thing.

If they cut his parts for participating on a competing net work, they will probably only hard themselves in the end. It's sad but it's business.

I don't think they are cutting him because he went to a competing channel rather he walked out on them for (probably) more money. We'll see if they take him back!

If they didn't have a contract of exclusivity then they only have themselves to blame.

Ch4 could have kept Big Brother Going
so now Ch5 has it.
So is normal a bit like ITV and BBC were
about poaching there stars, in the old days.

To be fair, I can understand why they might consider removing them because it would look a bit odd for him to randomly disappear off the show. That being said, i'm sure just a little bit of them inside is annoyed he's on Big Brother and that might possibly be a reason for the for the cutting too. :P

Frankly, I'd be a bit miffed if one of my main characters just walked out on a new, in production, series.:joker:

Surely it's Channel 4's own fault or whoever producers MBFGW? Surely they should have been smart enough to have a clause in the contract preventing stars of their show, such as Paddy doing something like this?

What does he actually do? :s Ive watched Gypsy Wedding a couple of times and I dont remember seeing him

He runs/manages a gypsy trailer park, he lives in a actual house with his family which is at the head of the park, a lot of the decisions for the park are made by him.
The show only consulted him about gypsy culture, and the bare knuckle fighting that they use to settle disputes. Since the show is focused a lot about the girls role in society he was kind of the spokes person for the male role.
It was a documentary style reality tv show.

He also claimed, in the BB house, that he has NEVER lived in a house!!:joker:

Sunny_01 21-08-2011 06:57 PM

Its not really a house, its a one of those very large trailers that look like a bungalow. We may think of it as a house but in his mind it is still a trailer and he could move it in parts using a truck as it has no solid foundations.

As for leaving for BB, well if I were them I would bin his scenes as well if it will mess with the continuity.

They could just say 'Paddy, has left the park to appear on another Television show', but no. :bored:

cell 21-08-2011 06:58 PM

maybe his house is made of trailers haha I know here in Canada some "mobile" homes are pretty much stationary after installation and look as nice as bungalows. They didn't exactly have a breakdown of the engineering of his home haha

They really don't need to say anything about Paddy not appearing in BFGW because he only appeared in 1 or 2 episodes explaining the culture and because he happened to be attending the wedding/first communion.
