I like the C5 production values

The music, the montages. Tasks.

Its good for a first effort. I think they have done really well so far.

starry 24-08-2011 08:30 AM

I don't agree, I think it's looks cheap in quite a few ways. From the simple eye, to their being no lobby area in the entrance, no live stream, cheap tasks, editing for people with low attention span, voiceover not being impartial like everything else, the music generally very cheap dance music or wind blowing or silly short bursts. Some say the lighting and sound is below standard as well.

Jords 24-08-2011 08:35 AM

Ive enjoyed it past 2 days actually.

starry 24-08-2011 08:41 AM

They've had some arguments which has livened it up a bit. But talking about production values I don't think they are that high. And why would anyone expect high production values from CH5 anyway?

billy123 24-08-2011 08:41 AM

I dont mind it too much as has been mentioned i am sure they toned it down the first 2 highlight shows were almost like a mindless one hour music video that hasnt been the case for the last couple of days but the forums and fan sites are still being strangled by the lack of live feed that still needs to be addressed long term it wont work.

They have done a good job

starry 24-08-2011 08:47 AM

The camerawork can be sloppy too.

lostalex 24-08-2011 08:53 AM

I miss some aspects of the C4 show, but i think this style fits C5, so it's okay as long as they commit to the show and keep it going.

Any BBUK is better than no BBUK imo.

rfighter 24-08-2011 08:53 AM

Of course the production values are high - anyone saying otherwise needs their eyes checked.

The launch was amazing, the house looks one of the best, the new editing actually livens the show up a bit, good mix of housemates.

No live feed is of course disheartening but I don't see how it has any effect on production values?

starry 24-08-2011 09:27 AM

The launch missed the house tour, it was just a quick and not interesting interview with the HMs and that was it. And the eye looked too cheap and simple to me then as well. The door with the eye design around it looked tacky. Obviously the celeb version is more tacky than the main series anyway but I didn't like the changes.

ricky2k9 24-08-2011 11:27 AM

Well they started the whole 'music in the background/montage' thing during B11 on C4 but not done in such greater depth. It's not Channel 5 doing the production its Endomol, the same people different channel.

TBH I really do not like this whole music editing business, the way the names appear below the people are handy but thats about it. I am enjoying this series, the only thing that has changed is no Davina IMO.

CaudleHalbard 24-08-2011 11:29 AM

I doubt C5 has much input. It is still Endemol running the show.

Smithy 24-08-2011 11:30 AM

me too

LaLaLand 24-08-2011 12:36 PM

I enjoy it. I think it's alot more appealing to many non-regular BB viewers. Those who I know who seldom watch have all said they like the "new style".

Joelle. 24-08-2011 12:38 PM

I think theyre doing a great job from what i've seen.

Lwize 24-08-2011 12:42 PM

The music, montages and black & white flashbacks are not improvements, IMO.
These adjustments seem to move the show closer to the BB USA design, which is pathetic.
They've already allowed nomination discussions for the series. If they introduce the Head of Household concept, Veto competitions and Slop, I'm walking.

bbnut 24-08-2011 12:55 PM

Here's my (unimportant) thoughts a few days in.

Initially I hated nearly everything about it. The eye, the titles, the housemates, the editing, the flashbacks, montages, nametags everything except the house, which I like (apart from the rubbish fake grass!).

I'm still no fan, but slowly, things are starting to improve. In last nights episode I don't remember seeing any flashbacks, which is good, I don't need reminding what happened yesterday and I found them really cheesy.

The name tags I really don't understand. They only did name tags for two people last night and it was half way through the show! If they have to use them, why don't the do it properly and show everyone's name during the wake up montage? To be honest I really think they should scrap them completely.

The montages are being put to slightly better use, I think they could be great for tasks, but should be kept at that or they will become stale very quickly.

One thing that still bugs me majorly and I'm surprised that it isn't worrying more people; things aren't being shown in chronological order. We see this when they show an event interspersed with HM's talking about it in the diary room. Obviously this isn't worrying in this scenario, but it makes me wonder how far the production team would be willing to chop and change events to liven up a story.

'Big Brother' is a bit too cheeky for my liking, and when the woman announced the party last night she said 'evenin'' which bugged me, big brother should speak correctly, without emotion, almost automatically, but perhaps thats just me.

I think Marcus' narration has toned down a little too, although it still has alot further to go imo. I'd like to think that producers mayhave taken some of the criticism on board because things do seem to have improved over the last couple of episodes, although until live feed is back, this is still a pale imitation of the big brother it once was.

If it makes it more interesting/entertaining to watch I would rather the producers have a little slack with showing things out of order

SimBrotherNetwork 24-08-2011 02:30 PM

It's not C5 making the show! When will you guys understand that, it's ENDEMOL!

D3vilish 24-08-2011 02:34 PM

I also think their doing a great job, And actually like the montages ect, Makes it a little bit more interesting, than watching it and it being boring.. (: Especially the tasks some of the tasks use to be so boring, but a bit of music and editing makes it much more enjoyable

Yes under a strict Desmond budget.

I agree with all of this.

And what's with the cheesy shots of peoples faces whilst they are changing highlights?

I don't like that either. Imagine 10 weeks of that in the main series. :( They've done continuity shots before but normally used some parts of the house. That made it somehow more objective and less intrusive.

I can't say I've noticed him toning it down at all.
