Frank Skinner says we must Joke about Fat people

On Radio 5 now
its his new book.

He says stop saying Fat people are OK.
They are Not OK

He has a point

Shasown 15-09-2011 01:31 PM

Have to agree, a little bit of gentle humour aimed at them, may make them stop overeating.

Its for their own good. And makes us normal people feel as if we have helped in some small way.

He's an idiot. I wonder what he loks like shirtless.

Maybe we should all harass frank skinner until he has the body of an abercrombie model.

He's an ignorant bigot.

All men should lok like david beckham and all women should lok like pamela anderson, and anyone who doesn't, should be ridiculed and harassed until they do.

He's an idiot.

Thats not what he is saying at all. If you seen him you would know he isnt advocating that at all.

"I wonder what he loks like shirtless."

He is Older now

His point on saying Fat People are Not Good
is very valid.

lostalex 15-09-2011 02:06 PM

How is that his fault? Surely how people react to his exercising of free speech is their own problem ;)

Why?

Weren't you one of those advocating free speech in the thread on the jailed troll? Isnt he allowed to say what he wants?

He made a humorous comment on how to reduce the increase in obesity rates in the UK, in his latest book, he is a comedian after all.

No he has his TV Show
and now a Book including all his newspaper clips.

Did you hear it on Radio 5 online?

Ryan. 15-09-2011 03:19 PM

I'm fat :(

lostalex 15-09-2011 03:21 PM

yes, i advocated free speech and i'm excersizing it.. how am i contradicting myself??

Free speech is about the government and justice system . What does this have to do with the government? nothing.

Why are you saying i'm being against free speech? i don't understand.

Frank skinner is free to harass fat people, and i'm free to call him a tw@t for what he said.

where is the condradiction???

Lose some weight then.

I don't think making fun out of them is a good thing but people who are fat only have themselves to blame (or parents). Some have medical issues but most just don't have any self discipline. You don't need too much of it, but knowing when enough is enough.

why? He's giving his opinion. I thought you were all for Freedom of Speech - seriously.

Fat people won't feel too comfy about it - because it is THEY who are fat.
Skinny people will mostly agree.

People with eating disorders will think he's out of order. People with drink problems probably won't.

People who have to pay excess baggage costs on flights for a kilo over - despite the fact that the guy sitting next to them is double their body weight: will agre with him.

See... it can be interpreted all different ways.

the contradiction is whereby you are all for free speech when it suits your agenda.

but are not for allowing someone their right to free speech without saying he should shut up : when it is a matter that happens to possibly offend you or something that you find distasteful.

Ouch!!

Brutal but very true.

Most fat people are fat due to their lifestyle and eating habits. Very few of them are fat due to medical issues (or a.n.other clinical reasons).

Marc 15-09-2011 03:36 PM

I thought it might have been a bit rude but I don't really mean to hurt anybodies feelings individually but it's true. Stop eating so much..

you make no sense,. when did i say that frank skinner should be put in jail for what he said? i didn't ever say that and i never would.

You make no sense. British people haver a fooked up idea of freedom of speech. I really don't understand. I never said anything about him being punished by the government for what he said, so how am i infringing on his freedom of speech? wtf.

Point me to the part in my post that I uttered a mention of Frank Skinner being put in jail - or that YOU had stated such a thing?

Then I'll consider answering any question you have.

You have the cheek to state that I make no sense. :D

Aye, very good.

Its not just about how much they eat, its about all sorts of other things as well.

The way people eat has more effect on the weight gains some people experience than how much they actually eat. Little snacks often and the combination of food, protein to carbs at various times of the day can drastically affect the metabolism.

As can types of exercise for the time of day.

Eat slightly less and exercise(even if its just walking) a bit more.

Saying that though a lot of fat people do put too much crap into themselves.

In all fairness: it's obvious that it was an 'in general comment' ..... If someone says "Look I'm fat, not helped by the fact that I had an operation on both my feet which means I'm wheelchair bound for 6 months" (or that type of thing) - it's mitigable as well as perfectly understandable.

Everything is relative.

:)

Pyramid* 15-09-2011 03:58 PM

anyone who watches these documentaries about fat people ....to obese people: the vast majority of them are in complete and utter denial as to the amount of foodstuff they eat, the type, how often and how little movement they make (not exercise as in running, jogging, zumba dance classes : movement).

It 'kills' me when you see someone sitting at 45 stone, bed ridden who suddenly get the wake up call and they say, "I want to lose weight, I want to live, I hate living this way".

What happened during the previous ten years that they were getting bigger and bigger, more and more immobile.

They didn't suddenly wake up one morning and find that their 14 stone body had somehow, morphed into a 45 stone one. That only happens in movies.

CharlieO 15-09-2011 04:08 PM

Ohh don't get me started. Fat should not be accepted it should be something people feel they need to change. Plus this whole 'curvy' women rubbish is ridiculous. Fair enough if your a size 12 woman then you are curvy. But Gok Wan telling these overweight moose that they are curvy is ridiculous.

I watch them when I am craving food but I know I shouldn't eat them. Puts me right off the idea of eating.
