Themed Weeks

Are you hoping they stay this year or are gone?

IMO they need to scrap them now and let the contestants be individual. We don't need to see urban acts singing westlife songs :idc:

I don't like them, far better to take a year or decade and find the song best suited to the contestant. from that period.

The themed weeks, although it states a particular artiste at times, still only have a list of songs that one song for each act must be chosen from. Very often, the themed weeks destroy a singer, professional singers would never think of singing sone songs that were ill suited to them.
In the themed weeks the contestants are forced to maybe often do songs that they would never want or would ever attempt to sing, even to sing songs they don't like at all.

That is not bringing out the best in the contestants,it actually stifles their best, I think it was Jamie Archer in ABBA week, he had to sing a song he hadn't a clue on, he didn't like and it was one he needed to perform well too.
He went out that week think.

I would also like to see some creativity done too rather than a themed week, whereby if they can write themselves, they do a song self penned or with others they know. However the acts need to come up with an original song written for them, that may show their strengths better and also change for one week at least the near always hearing the same songs year after year in the 'live' finals.

No they're pointless. Let the contestants sing a song that's best suited to them, or perhaps even sing a song they've written themselves.

Artist weeks are pointless - they should only be considered in the latter stages of the competition when there are only a few acts like (say 5 or 6) and there are a huge selection of popular songs to choose from (so artists like The Beatles, Madonna, Elton John etc who have a huge back catalogue) but even then it can really ruin a contestant's hopes if they get a crap choice of song, because I really believe that in themed weeks, the song choice itself can pick up a lot of votes, especially in the early stages. It'd be better if they just let them sing whatever they liked; clearly with Cher Lloyd last year they let her sing what she liked 'cause IIRC she was always singing modern songs, or at least doing mash ups of songs that allowed her to include a modern one. It then became unfair that she was doing that but other contestants were rigidly sticking to themes, IMO, but that's just a perception thing... I think it'd be better to do that though, for everyone.

I'd like Disney week, Musicals week, Rock week

Last year was pathetic because they could practically sing anything and they knew Cher was ****e without her 'gimmick'

Worst post of the year

i would like themed nights but something different and more challenging, like perform music from different acts, not the same ones repeated like big band night or the beatles, they should do a night of Pearl Jam, The Doors or even Led Zepplin, if they can pull off some of their songs, that would impress me, i know they are not strictly pop bands but Adele did a Bob Dylan song and it was fantastic, can't see why they can't be more adventurous.

Well she was... she was so catered for she'd have fell flat on her arse if she couldn't rap and did Big Band week.

Did you forget this?

No gimmicks or rapping and it was her best performance of the series.

MusicXian 03-10-2011 01:38 PM

Should probably be in the history forums, but her vocals were shaky (was still good, but hardly special). Somehow Simon and co, said she stole the show that night when before her was Rebecca Ferguson who rocked with Wicked Game.

I like theme weeks when they aren't overly specific, they got it right last year really as most theme were quite diverse.

Smithy 03-10-2011 02:15 PM

I like the themes, it gives all acts the chance to show that they're capable of more than one genre.

Although acts like elton john week, and Halloween week are totally irrelevant

Stevep 03-10-2011 03:00 PM

wouldnt bet against there being a Amy Winehouse themed week during the course of the show. Should be good.

Joelle. 03-10-2011 04:33 PM

It doesn't make any difference anyway, they never stick to the theme and are just given a completely irrelevent song to sing.

As if Kandy Rain's musical hero was Tina Turner, they probably couldn't name one song she sings apart from I Will Survive. :bored:

Jords 03-10-2011 04:35 PM

I like broad themes.

Marc 04-10-2011 01:07 AM

Broad themes yes.

Big Band. Year of Birth. Contemporary. Possible rock but that usually plays well into somebodies hands eg. Amelia. MJ songs. Best of british. Heroes. Beatles etc. any band/artist that have enough songs to be covered in a diverse manner.
