How long will the soaps last?

Just a general question, how long do you think the soaps will last for? It's just with EE's sharp decrease in quality lately it's made me wonder if the BBC would ever consider getting rid of it. Can you see them (in particular the big two EastEnders and Corrie) carrying on forever or do you think we could see a couple of them axed in the future?

I think Hollyoaks would be the first to go, then possibly emmerdale, I could only see them axing corrie/eastenders if they went too far with a storyline or, if ratings just fell through the floor

Really can't imagine Eastenders or Corrie ever getting cancelled

Hollyoaks A Year Left
Emmerdale 3-5 Years Left
Coronation Street 15 Years Left
EastEnders 25 Years Left

I'm pretty confident on the first two, not too sure about Corrie and EE.

Then again, with the state EastEnders is in now - if they don't hurry up and axe that Scottish ***** who's running the show then they may aswell just axe EastEnders ASAP.

They have to eventually.

Maybe they'll just come to a gradual end, they will run out of storylines and stuff.

I guess when it gets tiresome, which is no time soon.

Probably when TV dies in the next 50 years

Why do you think that?

He has a point.

The future is moving so fast and in 20 Years time, never mind 50, we will be far too busy with new ways of entertaiment and TV will be a sad thing of the past.

They already are.

Not for the majority.

I think the main three still have a good decade or two at least

Well, EastEnders' ratings are still very steady. They won't axe a programme unless the ratings fall to very low levels; EastEnders is one of the most-watchd shows in the UK. The same applies to Corrie and Emmerdale (not so much for the latter, though), so the probability that any of these shows will get axed is at an extremely low 0.05. These producers look at the ratings; not the quality. (For the most part.) So long as the ratings aren't particularly bad, shows won't get axed. In a way, I hope EastEnders loses viewers, so the BBC finally take action.

I can't see them getting axed for long long time, they're usually topping the ratings each week and I think they are simply part of the furniture in the entertainment world.
