Encouraging Ratings

The ratings don't look too good when you just look at the number, but looking at them overall compared to Channel 5's other shows, they are very encouraging.

BARB only have the official ratings up to the week ending 25th September at the minute, but it's enough to show how much BB dominates C5's other stuff.

its still quite good

I've always said this was the case. For Channel 5, they are great ratings.

All thanks to Aaron

I'm still concerned and am getting pessimistic about whether the show will be renewed after BB13

joeysteele 10-10-2011 07:43 AM

I think it will be renewed, even on those figures, Channel 5 could not bring on anything that would regularly get those figures, night after night, week after week.

I'm just staggered that 2.79 million humans watched a re-run of Mrs Doubtfire!

In all seriousness, i don't know how or why Endemol still charges an extraordinary amount of money for BB. It ain't 2001 all over again, they should just be grateful anyone wants to air the show anymore!

I suspect BB was cancelled here in Australia a few years back, more due to production costs and Endemol fees rather than desperately poor ratings.

It'd be interesting to compare what C5 paid per episode for the other shows on that list, inc Mrs Doubtfire vs BB per Episode cost!

I think it's pretty good for C5 and if they correct a few wrongs like LF then the next series could see higher figures.

happybbfan 10-10-2011 09:24 AM

there is nothing encouraging about a show thats cost 40m and only gets an average of 1.3m a night
bearing in mind that CBB has done a lot better than BB
and the official ratings are good for it

Seriously 40m ?

Why does it cost that much ?

psychtracker 10-10-2011 10:07 AM

I'm not an expert on the financials, hopefully someone on here knows a lot more about this and TV production costs in general. But, reputably C5 payed Endemol 200m for the rights for 2 years. I have no idea if that's just for the rights, or for all, or some of the production costs.

Either ways, imagine how much it would cost to film 24/7 for a few months, and 100s of staff wages and all. NOT cheap! And then compare to whatever the costs they pay for a re-run of Mrs Doubtfire, or syndication airing costs for CSI or something, which would be FAR FAR cheaper comparatively.

They need LOTS of voting, and advertising revenue to stay afloat with the model they use.

On 6 April 2011, Channel 5 formally confirmed it had signed a £200 million 2-year contract with Endemol to screen Big Brother UK from 18 August 2011.

Revenue cannot be that high. There is a limited amount of Clerasil, no wonder it is just the 18-30 Wine Me, Dine Me, 69 Me Brigade chosen.
