Is the DR now worthless?

Repeated showing of diary room footage to the house can not be a good thing right?

HMs go in there and feel protected by an agreement of privacy to say what they want to say, with the freedom that it won't be shown gives. This is great for us, the viewer, and good for them.

Betray that privacy too much though and bang goes the trust and every word or action in there sarts being as fake as it is in the open house.

But this killing of the goose that lays the golden egg, the use of DR footage that causes short term drama, is stupid of the BB team imo.

It certainly isnt worth the long term loss of what the DR at it's best delivers.

Thoughts?

I agree DR footage shouldn't be fed to the house too often but it's not the first time it's happened.

CBB3 - Caprice discovering John's thoughts about her
BB6 - Saskia finding out what Maxwell thought of her
BB7 - Susie's nominations
And a load of secret missions the HMs have been in on

billy123 10-10-2011 06:41 PM

It discourages people from nominating truthfully its pretty short sighted of bb.

I have to agree. It's the one place that hms are meant to be able to vent off, and say what they feel - for the viewers benefit.

It does seem a bit destructive of BB to go down this route - hms will just clam up - or give them things that won't come back round to haunt them at a later date.

On this occasion it was wrong as it was faye who won the prize yet everyone seemed to receive it..

LivT 10-10-2011 06:46 PM

It is a very interesting point you are making, Versavious. You're right in predicting that an immoderate indulgence of DR footage, being used to create in-house drama, inevitably resulting in housemates sentiments being restrained and restricted. It seems like they havn't thought about the long term consequenses over this and are merely thriving on the results it is providing in the here and now

I'm not sure these guys this year are thinking about the 'long term' though at all... they seem happy to use up the DR's trust to get short term drama. Maybe they don't see an ongoing future for the show, maybe they don't get it, maybe they just don't care... who knows?

As a fan, and a particular fan of the DR, I think it's a real shame though.

Like I say, killing the goose that lays the golden egg.

Agree with OP, what's said in the DR stays in the DR

Vicky. 10-10-2011 07:55 PM

DR convos should remain totally private. Ruins the whole point otherwise and people wont open up properly in there for fear of it being shown. They will also start giving crap nomination reasons, incase it gets shown.

Gillian-73 10-10-2011 08:05 PM

yes i agree op! it'll make them very conscious of what they say especially with their reasons for nominations! it should always remain private.

Niamh. 10-10-2011 08:08 PM

Yep, I agree OP. It ruins people like Anton playing a game and being a proper villain. It's not fair to show their conversations and will stop people being honest with the viewers atleast

joeysteele 10-10-2011 08:15 PM

I don't agree with relaying diary room conversations to the rest of the house but how I would love some of Anton's to be relayed so I guess now and then is acceptable but not desirable.

Personally, I think BB have destroyed Anton this series, which while I might be a fan of his, is a shame.

No one should be penalised for playing well :/

If you mean by "Playing well" being a great guy to the Hm's & a pot sterrer to us then, the Diary Room is the enemy to Anton. The public don't buy into it. Victor was the only Hm i actually enjoyed seeing playing the game, where as all the others that try come off looking like sneaky little....

Jords 11-10-2011 12:25 AM

Shocked people are moaning about this.

Surely showing nominations is good to cause friction? The HMs know its a rare thing... they wont think nothing of it, promise.

SoBig 11-10-2011 12:27 AM

It is stupid. Same as bringing housemates back. Why the **** would they bring Rebeckah back? What possible good could they get out of that?

InOne 11-10-2011 12:29 AM

Well with this one, when they saw the board, I'm pretty sure they had an idea what it would likely be. Plus Faye hit it by accident, not like it was forced on them or anything.

ozzyshaggah 11-10-2011 12:29 AM

agree not a good idea

In the short term, sure showing noms is a fun thing that causes drama. This is fun and good to watch.

But despite your 'promise' Jords, I think you don't get the long term impact. It at the least makes HMs put annoying crap like 'she's a good lass and all, but...' before everything they say in a nom,and at the worst makes them pick weak insepid reasons for putting others up.

You really want nominations to be all 'because she left talc on the floor...'?
