Email response from Ch5 regarding "Freezergate"

This is not a reply to me. I saw this on DS. A member on there has sent an email to Ch5 saying how disgusting it was and how we were not shown it, and Jay was being protected. This is what Ch5 had to say:

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Big Brother.

Our intention is always to present events in the Big Brother house in a fair and balanced way. That said, due to editorial and legal matters, as well as time constraints, not everything that occurs in the Big Brother house is broadcast. In this instance, it was decided that it was editorially inappropriate to refer to the incident and that it raised taste and decency issues.

The reference to the incident on Big Brother's Bit On The Side was unfortunate as it was inaccurately reported and there was no opportunity for viewers to see the incident in context.

In any event, as you would expect the housemate involved in the incident was reprimanded by Big Brother, and in line with health and safety requirements all expert advice and necessary steps were taken to ensure the housemates' wellbeing.

Please be assured that we are grateful to you for raising your concerns and have logged your comments in the Viewer Enquiries Report which is circulated throughout the company.

If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your interest in Channel 5.
Yours sincerely
Terry
VIEWER ADVISOR

Basically it DID happen then.

Of course it happened why cant they just mention that it happened on the highlights? or is that legal matters to?

That's quite interesting actually, it would be inappropriate to be shown tbf and I'm glad that Jay was apparently warned for it, the bit about BOTS makes sense as well because what Heaven said was a bit misleading if what Maisy said were true and given it was a 30 second thing and the incident hadn't been aired it wasn't really a good time to start explaining it

Never understood why anyone would assume he wouldn't have been.

Just like Tom being warned for threatening Aaron; they don't have to air it.

After finding out he didn't go and squat over the freezer and **** directly into it I've not been bothered to be honest, it was nowhere near as bad as it was originally made out to be.

It should have been either shown or referenced to in the highlights show though.

It's still quite bad, he froze it and put it in Mark's tea

PMSL. Really?! :laugh2:

Anyway, glad they admitted it did happen. But I cant believe he only got a warning for it, but that IS better than nothing.

Still, the viewers should be made aware that it did happen though, even if it doesnt get shown. People voting for Jay might not do so if they knew the extent of how disgusting he is, and not letting them in on it and allowing them to vote under false pretenses is pretty much obtaining money by deception ;)

Livia 13-10-2011 06:13 PM

Call me sceptical, but anyone could have written that statement.

Sam:) 13-10-2011 06:18 PM

What do people expect them to do,there hardly supposed to say "this happened two weeks ago but since people won't stfo we are goin to show jay **** in a cigarette box and put it in the freezer!" I agree he should have got a warning or ejected but if he was ejected we'd have loads of people going "oh it was just a joke there was no need, stupid pc endemol".

Exactly Vicky but money talks so Ofcom will let them off with it.

Find some way of showing a flashback of the warning he supposedly received for it ;)

Easy enough done. Just bring it into a DR convo or something.

Or even if he receives another warning, they could say 'Jay, as you are aware this is your second warning' then do the flashback to the first :)

My sentiments exactly. Livia. I feel everyone should take into consideration that people online are not always who they say they are.

True, it does sound all official and legit though

I should think the ex housemates, all three know what they saw, and even saying tweets that Jay had done other stuff. So why was the other stuff covered up then? And if C5 reckon it was inaccurately reported, it must have ben bad still for them not to show it. However, to clear the matter up with fans, then letting them view if they wished to and decide for themselves would have been the thing to do surely?

But, oh no, that would be wayyyyy too easy, and wouldn't look too good for Jay would it.

But as has been inferred, that letter/email could just be a load of made up codswallop for all we know.

He's just copying and pasting from a thread on DS though

LivT 13-10-2011 06:50 PM

Locke and Patrick. Surely you cannot be trying to justify that it wasn't a big deal, simply because Jay didn't poo directly into the freezer . That middle man has a lot to answer for ...

Exactly.

The way they tried to completely cover it up was ridiculous.

They didnt even have to show the incident(infact I would prefer if they didnt tbh) but they should have shown him receiving the warning he apparently recieved for it. Surely a housemate getting a warning for something is something viewers SHOULD know about?

C5 like doing Lost type flashbacks so thats how they could show him being punished in the dairy room for the incident.
