Yes. He developed a liver problem that could not be cured (Staffy) and gradually went downhill. One month he was a great big strong dog and the next he could barely make it up the stairs. It happens. He had 7 great years - he was a rescue dog so 7 was a bonus I guess.

Yeah definitely, doesn't make it any easier though :(

I'm so very sorry..that sucks. My in laws always had staffie rescues and I know what lovely and loving family pets they are. It leaves such an empty hole..he was ill..but you rescued him and gave him a good life..that's all that dogs ask for

Ahh bless you, I am so sorry to hear that. Our cat was put to sleep 2 years ago but we still talk as though she was here. That's the problem with pets, you get too attached to them and it's just like losing a member of the family.

Shaun 25-10-2011 01:49 PM

I'm sorry to hear that, RIP :(

Josy 25-10-2011 01:52 PM

Sorry to hear that LT

Crimson Dynamo 25-10-2011 02:08 PM

I suppose its a practice run for when my parents go?

Always looking on the bright side, that's LT...

Ammi 25-10-2011 02:33 PM

LOL LT..you certainly know how to post a conversaition stopper..

LaLaLand 25-10-2011 04:25 PM

Very sorry for your loss, it's heartbreaking when your dog passes away. It upsets me more-so than a human passing in many ways, you just literally feel lost and out of place without them.

Stay strong.

P.s - good on your for getting a Staffy rescue dog, I've volunteered at dog shelters here and seen just how many Staffs are in those places and how so many are dismissed "incase they're violent" when in reality they're one of the nicest breeds of dog you can own. Good on you for giving that dog a great 7 years!

Adamw92 25-10-2011 04:36 PM

Sorry for your loss :(

Crimson Dynamo 25-10-2011 04:36 PM

The worst part is making the call to the vet and giving him the drugs. Looking into his eyes and knowing an hour later you will be digging a hole..

telling all the little LT's was not good either

Doogle 25-10-2011 05:19 PM

I know the feeling, well my dog died naturally but we knew he only had days left. I remember hugging him and saying I loved him and he was gone an hour later.

I'm really sorry for your loss. :(

dwarling 25-10-2011 05:50 PM

Really sorry for your loss, I had a Bearded collie for ten wonderful years, he was our very best friend,..we had to have him put to sleep last Dec. It's a truly awful feeling..still miss him dearly..god bless'.

Already lost one parent and it was easier than losing a dog...

Dogs don't realise their worth or how much you love them

Tom, I could not agree more with you in respect of your comments above.

LT: you and I fight like hell on here - but swords placed down on this one..... I'm so so sorry to read of this. :(

It's a sore one, even if we know it was the right thing to do etc - it's still one of the most horrible decisions to make, to deal with and sometimes, to get over.

I hope you get another rescue dog. I'm sure there's lots of love and affection you'll be able to give, that they will be desperate to receive - and love you to bits for it.
