Is it just me or does anybody else find that the judges overhype The Risk?

I liked The Risk in week 1,I thought they was ok in week 2, week 3 and week 4 I have hated them and yet the judges still praise them.

Do you think The Risk is overhyped.

fruit_cake 30-10-2011 02:30 PM

I don't think they do, I think they overhype groups in general. The Risk are quite good imo

The problem with both X Factors this year is the amount of pre-recorded backing vocals. Yes, the boys are singing the verses and the choruses, but the choruses are also pre-recorded so they are singing over the top of them.
The USA X Factor dubbed the judges houses with studio recordings of the songs, which sounded ridiculous because you can never sound like you're in a studio when you're singing in someone's huge garden!
It's the strongest use of vocal boosting on this years show. It wasn't present at any stage when Leona/Alexandra or Shane won. It seems to have sprung up from last year.
If you look at the first of Paula's boybands, they're like Diversity vs a boyband. They make The Risk look like buskers. I don't like groups that are put together in front of our eyes. I know most groups ie Take That/Spice Girls/Steps started off as 5 people replying to adverts for a band but thats a bit different.

Callum 30-10-2011 04:03 PM

Agreed, they are crap.

Locke. 30-10-2011 04:13 PM

They are brilliant. They are a lot better than JLS were when they were on (and they were my favourites).. This was their first off week, but I doubt they'll be anywhere near the bottom 2 still

MeMyselfAndI 30-10-2011 04:26 PM

They weren't very good this week.

Yes I do jf, like yourself I liked them the first week but feel they've gone downhill since. In fact I feel that with a good few of the acts.

Z 30-10-2011 04:47 PM

They always overhype groups because they want them to do well. They don't pick already together groups because they generally don't have the right image to be a successful group; so they put together groups who don't have enough time to get to know each other well enough to have chemistry. They got lucky with One Direction - otherwise, I believe, every other group to have made it to the final of the X Factor existed as a group before they auditioned. They really ought to start putting groups together, turning them down at boot camp and telling them to come back next year.

nanaimo 30-10-2011 04:48 PM

Thriller was terrible, they should study The Stereo Hogzz, thats one hell of a good group.

Tom 30-10-2011 04:50 PM

The Risk were great in week 1 but they've got worse and worse each week, last night was very Nu Vibe-esque. I think their days are numbered, they'll be this years shock elimination. I think the girls will go further than them

Pyramid* 30-10-2011 04:52 PM

Nope, you are not alone JF.

They are truly hellish and as for them last night: they were absolutely rubbish.

So too was Janet Devlin - why the hell she's still there I will never know.

Vicky. 30-10-2011 04:55 PM

They were bad last night.

Janet, and Sophie for that matter, are just one trick ponies and its a travesty that Amelia was booted out over them. Amelia would have walked the entire thing. She has the performance ability of Misha and all important likeability which would have set her apart from anyone else. Kelly thinks with her heart rather than her head.

I think it was fair enough giving Amelia the boot based on the performances they gave though, the other three were better, don't you think? Looking at her pre-live show performances, she was looking very good but I don't think she'd have gotten all that far in the competition - wherever Sophie gets to would probably have been where Amelia got to.

Based on performances it was the right decision but the rest of the girls played it safe and did more or less what they'd done until that point. I completely disagree she would have only got as far as Sophie, Amelia was favourite to win at the point of being booted off. Sophie has always been in the shadow of the other 2 girls and will probably be given the boot tonight.

I've not seen most of the pre-live shows stuff 'cause I moved country and have no idea about odds/didn't see them so I really didn't know what to expect of most of the finalists other than the ones that were on in the first couple of audition shows - but she just didn't give off any kind of vibe that suggested her going was a loss to the show, to me. Her boot camp performance was good, I watched it after somebody linked it in response to her being put out by Kelly, but that didn't come across at all on the live shows, she was a bit rubbish on the show, had nothing to do with her not playing to her strengths IMO, just that she was really weak. Whenever there's more than two strong contenders in a category, though, somebody loses out - and I can't see it being Janet or Misha any time soon, going by their live show performances to date. Amelia wouldn't have done anything to detract support from either of them.

Tom 30-10-2011 05:36 PM

But when you're stripped of your identity, given an iconic male song that isn't the anywhere near the kind of stuff you'd normally sing, put on first on the first live show and given a pink rinse, its never going to go well.

Her version of ET was miles better than Little Mix's last night

True, they did pretty much do their best to ruin her chances, but I still think (assuming Sophie gets mid-way through the competition, actually, that's presumptuous of me) she'd only get that far if she'd been given a chance.

Visage 30-10-2011 07:12 PM

I never really like the groups, male or females, but there is something I like about the Risk. I've enjoyed all their tunes, however last night's was a real dip in form for me.

Stevep 30-10-2011 07:26 PM

I think they are definitely over hyping Little Mix. I think simon wants a new girl band on the scene and has ordered them to over hype them.

I also agree with Sophie.

The only contenders for me are Kitty, Misha and the other lad, not Craig - the young guy with the walking stick act last night.... he's really good.

Tom4784 30-10-2011 08:24 PM

It reminds me of a few series back when you had Hope and that boyband, everyone hyped the boyband up but they ended up going out by the 4th week. I can see a similar thing happening here if Little Mix continues to improve.

Futureproof, ahahahahahahaha. They looked ridiculous by virtue of having three tall guys and two short ones, and iirc they kept putting the short ones on the ends so they looked like afterthoughts in the few performances they got to do. Hope >
