Lots of Poppy outrage this year

Is it me or does it seem everyone is going crazy about Poppies being banned and them getting sent home from work and all those sorts of stuff this year? Heards loads about different things from different sources

Vicky. 09-11-2011 05:03 PM

I didnt even know poppys were banned. How pathetic.

I have had a bad day with poppys tbh. I have one of my mates going mental with me in private messages on facebook all because of my latest poppy related status D:

Only thing I've heard is about England not being allowed them on their shirts for the Spain match, and that's just cos of some FIFA regulation I think

What was your status?

Are our ethnic friends actually complaining about poppies or are the powers that be just being offended on their behalf, again?

I alway see people moaning how foreigners are moaning over the poppies and how they should go back home if they don't like it, yet I've never read or heard anything directly from an immigrant condeming the use of them.

Livia 09-11-2011 07:32 PM

Sadly, the ironic thing is that people died to allow dedicated non-thinkers in this country the freedom to spout every half-baked thought that enters their head. I wear my poppy with pride. Nothing would stop me wearing my poppy.

Jack_ 09-11-2011 07:42 PM

Yeah, I've noticed it the last few years - it's either the banning of poppies or the obligatory requirement to wear one in certain situations. Both are stupid, it's an individuals choice as to whether he/she wears a poppy or not, no one else should have any say in it.

In May 2010, Tohseef Shah spray painted a British War Memorial with "Islam will dominate, Osama is coming" he was fined £50 and walked free from court. In November 2010, Emdadur Choudhury burned a Poppy during the 2 minute silence. He too, was given a £50 fine and walked free from court. Today, 2 men have been sentenced to 12 months in prison for spray painting a Poppy on a mosque. Welcome to the Great British justice system. Disgusting..

Edit. it did have more on but I cut off the bits I didnt agree with, and still got grief for posting this, so I ended up deleting it altogether. Just not worth it

Absolutely agree. It is nobody else's choice if I wear a poppy, and in the very slim chance that it offends somebody, then I'm afraid it is tough. This is my country and I shall show my pride for it. I wouldn't expect to go to anybody else's country and then have the audacity to get offended by their traditions.

But I do still think it is a minority that get 'offended' by British traditions, the majority don't care, unfortunately the media hype it into a massive deal and too many people lap it up and take it as their gospel.

Stuff like this annoys me on facebook

HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME POUNDLAND, SENDING STAFF HOME FOR WEARING A POPPY!!! IF IT WASN'T FOR THE MEN AND WOMEN OUT THERE AND THE MEN AND WOMEN LOST, YOU WOULDN'T BE SITTING IN YOUR POXY SHOP, YOU'RE PURE DIRT, AND BODYSHOP HAVE BANNED STAFF FROM WEARING POPPY'S,........SET THIS AS YOUR STATUS IF YOU SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.....POPPYS ARE NOT SECTARIAN FLOWERS .....WEAR YOUR POPPY WITH PRIDE!!!

Random nonsense that probably didn't even happen but people feel the need to post, and they probably don't even buy a poppy themselves.

And just veering right off topic, the one about being a mum really annoys me. Trading salon haircuts for ponytails etc

12 month sentance, but it seems there was more to it than the poppy being spray painted upon further reading :suspect:

(So no, technically it wasnt totally true...should read up on things before reposting them )

But the s**t I was getting was nothing about them not being true...it was 'why does it matter to you if british people get treat worse by law anyway'...which is just ridiculous. Of course it would matter.

MTVN 10-11-2011 04:48 PM

The group who burned the Poppy last year were banned today though, so that protest won't be happening again

Wow they're stupid, spraying "EDL" & Poppy graffiti on a store that was selling them

Angus 10-11-2011 04:54 PM

I have always worn my poppy with pride, if it weren't for The Few, we would not enjoy the freedoms we now have in this country. This year though I've got through 3 of them. First one got destroyed when I forgot it was on my mac and it ended up in the washing machine. 2nd one got destroyed by my grandson who ripped it off my coat and ate it. Hoping no. 3 makes it to tomorrow which is the actual armistice anniversary, not Sunday that's been designated:laugh:

Actually quite a unique day: 11:11:11:11

An employee was asked to remove a poppy, so she walked out. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-15507215

Yup

That said, I know it sounds horrible, but I dont see it as that much worse than spraying “Islam will dominate the world – Osama is on his way” and “Kill Gordon Brown” on war memorials

Both the same thing to me.

Suppose 'where an upstairs window of the Milco store was smashed with a brick.' makes it worse...(assuming that was also the lads, the story doesnt make that part too clear, just says a similar car was in the area)

The way it's worded, "against company's dress policy" seems a little odd.

Yeah all prejudice is stupid, suppose these kind of things are just left at each judges discretion as to how severe the punishment is

arista 10-11-2011 05:10 PM

That Muslim Leader
was just on ITV1 London News
he claims at the Royal Albert Hall
his pals will burn poppies.

He needs to be Jailed or something.

All extremists(do we call dickheads like these stories extremists...or just racist pricks?) of any religion or whatever, should be stuck on an island in the middle of nowhere and left to battle it out between themselves.

Always a select few make whole groups of people look bad and theres really no need :bored:

See I dont get this. there are threats of it beforehand...why not sort it out before it happens?

If they can jail those people for trying to start a riot, they can jail people who plan things like this and brag about it.
