manufactured groups

i really dont understand how people give these the time of day, i know lots of groups are manufactured, but when solo acts enter the x factor and are not deemed good enough and are thrown into groups not only is it unfair on genuine groups who enter, but its also unfair to all genuine acts. With one direction last year and now little mix making the latter stages are we going to see only manufactured groups constructed of rejects making the live shows from now on? Its crazy the way people fall into the trap as well, a few months ago the members of little mix knew each other about as well as we all know them! ludicrous

MusicXian 21-11-2011 09:42 PM

Doesnt matter in the end they are clearly good together. Anyway I think the producers chuck them out as solos on purpose to match them together as a group as they know in advance there will be not enough good groups (and they would have been right).

However, people at first didn't give them the time of the day, as the 50/1 quote suggests, but they deserve all credit for performing consistently and brilliantly every week to make them now almost joint faves.

BBfanUSA 21-11-2011 09:50 PM

wasn't one direction manufactured?

abcd 21-11-2011 09:57 PM

yes if you read my original post it says one direction were

GypsyGoth 21-11-2011 09:57 PM

It doesn't matter to me that Little Mix weren't lucky enough to be born near each other, and needed not only a talent show, but also someone else to have the vision to put them together.

Z 21-11-2011 09:59 PM

I get your point, but then again, most successful pop groups are just 3-5 strangers flung together at auditions, just on the X Factor we actually see them getting formed. Sometimes it works out (Girls Aloud (bad example 'cause they actually did come from a reality show), Take That, All Saints, Sugababes, The Wanted, The Saturdays, I could go on...) and sometimes it doesn't - The X Factor has just had a lot of those who haven't worked out, which is true to life really, for every success story you have a dozen failed projects, in the music business, that's just the way it is.

Tom 21-11-2011 10:03 PM

Who cares if groups are manufactured or not? If a manufactured grup makes better music than a band that write their own material then give me the manufactured band any day.

If Little Mix have a career after X Factor I can see the fat one taking a lot of artistic control anyway, and I can see them going down an early Girls Aloud/Sugababes route with that kind of electro sound, which they can pass for not being stereotypically manufactured. If you listen to Sound of the Underground, despite being manufactured it was way ahead of its time, likewise with Sugababes music from around that time (although they're weren't manufactured back then but my point still stands).

Using Girls Aloud- the rejected girls made a band (the name escapes me) and were awful, they flopped. If they all happened to win, Girls Aloud would have flopped within the year. Just goes to show how even to be manufactured, you still have to 'work'. Hear Say and Liberty X are the opposite example.

also i know there totally different sex's but there is no way little mix are as good as jls were, who couldnt win, so its just not going to happen for littlemix, can see them making final though

Shaun 21-11-2011 10:05 PM

all X Factor groups are manufactured. Literally or otherwise.

joeysteele 21-11-2011 10:08 PM

As long as they work it shouldn't matter,I ahve to say I think Littlemix have worked really well being put together,I don't care for One Direction but they also have worked as well so if it works it will happen more, especially on X Factor.

MusicXian 21-11-2011 10:13 PM

Abcd has a bet on Marcus so he hates all the other acts. Maybe he likes Misha because she will not be winning.

abcd 21-11-2011 10:15 PM

ill let you into a little secret, just b4 the live shows started i was torn between amelia and marcus, im happy with the choice i made

MusicXian 21-11-2011 10:17 PM

Was a great bet indeed but if Marcus gets beaten then so be it I suppose. I just dislike a thread like this where you are putting down a rival who clearly is very likeable and has put in more effort than anyone on this show.

abcd 21-11-2011 10:17 PM

i know what im talking about when it comes to betting on the x factor, i had olly a few years ago and he came second, cleaned up with matt cardle last year, and backed marcus at decent odds this year, a lot of study goes in to my x facto punts :)

abcd 21-11-2011 10:18 PM

not just little mix, i have a problem with all of them, whether it be one direction/nu vybe/the risk/one direction

Tom 21-11-2011 10:19 PM

What about Diva Fever and Jedward? Or Kendro?

MusicXian 21-11-2011 10:21 PM

It's the whole point of showbiz though. Would you prefer 2 shoes, Girl v Boy, Estrelles and whatever other band who entered the comp in this despite being not half as good as The Risk or Little Mix?

Maybe The Keys could have stayed, but in all honesty I liked the idea in the end of putting Charlie with better vocalists.

abcd 21-11-2011 10:23 PM

i actually think the keys would have done better than the risk, so again utterly stupid decision! jedward and diva fever entered as john and edward, and diva fever so fair play to them

MusicXian 21-11-2011 10:25 PM

I doubt it. The keys would have been torn to shreds by the judges by week 3 for being Charlie dependant.

abcd 21-11-2011 10:27 PM

you mean like the risk were by gary?

Jords 21-11-2011 10:30 PM

I understand the point, I feel the ready-made groups are sort of cheated out of place too however TXF is all about finding talent and if a manufactured group is better then why not seek out their potential.

Tom 21-11-2011 10:31 PM

Lets be honest, if The Keys got through they would have been exactly the same as The Risk. I wouldn't recognise any of them other than the main one. The Risk were put through for the story. Nothing more, nothing less. Why else poach the lead singer from The Keys and make him the lead singer of The Risk, when backing in both bands were pretty irrelevant?

Jords 21-11-2011 10:36 PM

All of the members of The Risk were talented (except the kid that dropped out), it annoyed me so much that the focus was on Charlie... he was great but so were they all. So much potential wasted there.

Alf 24-11-2011 04:04 PM

lets face facts, there's 4 or 5 nobody's walking the streets right now who nobody knows, but next year just because they audition for x factor and are stereotypically good looking, they're going to be a sucess whatever they sound like.

Strictly Jake 24-11-2011 04:24 PM

Does anyone remember hope? Cant believe they managed to come 4th. It was a rubbish series though. Simon tried to give them a career and a recording contract and they flopped. The lead singer then was in a group called girls cant catch who also flopped. So manufactured groups can do well on the x factor but not necessarily well in the music industry(I know there are many exceptions such as One direction, girls aloud, hearsay and liberty x). So I think little mix need to win this or be 2nd or 3rd otherwise I cant see them being successful. So little mix for the win!
