Another False BBXtra Claim?

BBXTRA Claims that 2012 will be the last year for BB

Quote:

Owner Richard Desmond is said to to pull the plug on Big Brother at the end of 2012, this means this year’s Big Brother could really be the very last as other Broadcasters have no interest in taking over the show.

It’s been rumoured that Desmond expected a lot more regular viewers for the money, however this all backfired after it became so obvious Big Brother has influenced votes and the show became a turn off with some night’s well below 1 million.

Desmond wanted to broadcast the show for a total of 3 years, but will quit the deal a year early – it was rumoured he made a deal at the cost of £200 Million this was incorrect as the deal was for much less.

Celeb Big Brother will go ahead on the 4th January 2012 and the regular in late Spring, after that it could be all over for Big Brother.

It's nothing more than a mock up of what it used to be now anyway: they'd be as well pulling the plug - since it's manipulated beyond any possible recognition and BB voters are taken taken for one very long hard ride.

Saph 03-12-2011 04:55 PM

Hope they do, they should have never brought it back.

MTVN 03-12-2011 05:04 PM

Seems like they're just guessing to me, and when they say it was getting "well below 1 million" viewers some nights that's just bull because ratings never actually dropped below the 1m mark on the official figures

Samuel. 03-12-2011 05:12 PM

Yeah, and it's an easy guess to make. I don't think anyone would be surprised if BB13 ends up being the last.

Jordan. 03-12-2011 05:12 PM

Probably will turn out true

MTVN 03-12-2011 05:15 PM

I don't know where they got the 3 year contract from either, as far as I know it was only ever a 2 year contract, or some people were saying 5 years, but I've never heard of it being 3

And I'm pretty sure the Channel 5 website had said 2 years when they announced the news.

Jack_ 03-12-2011 06:37 PM

It's guess work, but guess work that'll end up a reality followed by Mr Marky claiming he 'confirmed' this first, and then the entire online BB community will mock him for his transparent bullsh*t.

Tregard 03-12-2011 10:43 PM

What a big heaping pile of chutzpah

Smithy 03-12-2011 10:46 PM

fingers crossed

Yes, it is a two year contract.

Marky's article is just not-so-educated guesswork - I think it's a bit premature to call time on Channel 5's Big Brother yet. Celebrity Big Brother had two million viewers a night and it gets Channel 5 press coverage, even from the likes of The Sun. I'd be surprised if they didn't stick with that at least.

But even the normal version could yet be salvaged if costs can be kept down - it still had at least 1million viewers a night (except on Saturdays) which is higher than their other recent reality fare. Amy Childs' show debuted with only 500,000 viewers.

I can't believe some of you idiots on here actually hoping that it get's cancelled. Do you realize what forum you are even on?

Worried for BB after 2012 :conf:

I have this really strange feeling Channel 5 will axe BB again after next year, there was such a hype around it, and after hearing Big Brother Xtra's report

I feel quite nervous about it, I sure hope it dosen't get axed again.... :conf:

Jarrod 04-12-2011 09:24 AM

I've already posted this..

Being worried for a tv programme having passed it's best -isn't what I'd consider something to worry over.

LJH23 04-12-2011 01:16 PM

Lots of quotes, from a very reliable source too.

It must be true.

JohnnyBB 04-12-2011 01:30 PM

i think we all know anyway the contract wont be re newd anyway after 2012, an i can imagine the deal to have cost less than 80 million, not rocket sience just enjoy 2012 of bb cause it will really be the last this time.

g17m 04-12-2011 01:32 PM

there is a chance channel 5 will cancel it after next year, but they could still save it by doing 2 things
1) bring back live feed so the press can get stories before the crappy edited to **** h/l show
2) sort the ****ing production crew out, get a good cast of HM's, (mainly different age ranges) and stop them bumming their favourite in the crappy H/L show!!!!

dizzy bint 04-12-2011 02:06 PM

I'm sure CBB isn't going anywhere, it was very successful for them.

Not to sure about ordinary BB.

Samuel. 04-12-2011 02:15 PM

So annoying that the celeb version is the one to do well out of the two. It's nowhere near as good as regular Big Brother.

iRyan 04-12-2011 10:13 PM

It all depends on how BB2012 performs on ratings. There's no way that they've already decided they are gonna cancel it -_-

Just look at the context in which this is written:

It's the usual BS "exclusive" pulled out of MrMarky's ass, so if he's right he can act like he was the first person to announce, and if he's wrong he can just claim "it was only a rumor".

Even still it doesn't make sense, Big Brother has been Channel 5's biggest ratings puller in a long time. Even if it's only verging on 1 million, that's a hell of a lot more persistently than Channel 5 are used to. It's relatively cheap to make in comparison with other shows that would get those ratings, it's one of the only shows Desmond can guarantee he'll get phone vote money from, and he's already spent the majority of the cost through advertising, which is a sunk cost anyway. Economically, it seems stupid to cancel it.
