Sarkozy: We need Great Britain

Quote:

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has admitted that the European Union is now a two-speed alliance, but insists that Britain won't be forced out of the bloc's single market.

Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel fell out with Prime Minister David Cameron at least week's EU summit, when London refused to sign up to a pact imposing closer economic co-ordination between member states.

In an interview with the French daily Le Monde, Sarkozy says he and the chancellor did everything to allow the British to take part in the agreement, but there are now clearly two Europes.

But, asked whether Britain could still remain inside the EU single market, he said Europe needs Great Britain and would be greatly impoverished if it was allowed to depart.

Finally they own up that they actually need us

We need them more than they need us.

"...he said Europe needs Great Britain and would be greatly impoverished if it was allowed to depart..."

If we were "allowed" to depart? Poor choice of words from the Frenchman.

Sarkozy is right about one thing, they would be "impoverished" without us, considering the amount of cash we stuff into the organisation.

We're one of the main backers in Europe, they should be trying to utter sweet nothings into our ears instead of attempting to alienate us. Sarkozy's got it right, Europe should be doing it's best to keep a lot of the western side sweet since a lot of the countries in that area provide the most capital. Europe's not going to survive if the richest countries turn their backs on it.

Sarkosy isn't Europe's spokesman, it says a lot about how he sees the EU imo
