Depends what you decide is reasonably good quality and cheap. Coffee quality is quite subjective what I like you may detest.

Asda Aldi or online.

fruit_cake 04-01-2012 07:13 PM

it's quite expensive in Asda, £3 is the cheapest for 227g. I found some in Lidl but it was instant and not really into that

Bollo 04-01-2012 07:15 PM

Sainsbury's taste the difference /fairtrade ground coffee range is normally quite reasonable and they have decaf ones at either £2.99 or £3.17 for 227g, but it depends on what you call cheap I guess. I am presuming a cafetera uses the same coffee as a cafetiere or regular coffee maker, forgive my ignorance if not :)

What sort of coffee do you like? Full flavour Medium, best advice really is to find a brand/type you really enjoy then search around for the cheapest outlet

I tend to bring quite a few back whenever I'm in Spain, and they have decaf in Carrefour for 1 euro a packet 227g, but I've finally run out now. I guess I'll just have to pay the UK price. The cheapest decaf in Asda is around £3.50. They have £1 packets in the pound shops but it's not decaf and it's absolutely vile, I might give the Sainsbury's one a try thanks

I don't mind really as long as it's drinkable. I used to buy the Asda everyday decaf when it was £1.68 a packet, but it's nearly £3.50 now :amazed:

Wow that is cheap! Ok I see the price difference now..I was just comparing Sainsburys own to the 'brand' ones which are usually £4+, maybe another supermarket own brand will be cheaper?
I have never tried the decaf version myself but I can definately vouch for the flavour of the other taste the difference range..in fact you've made me want a cup of coffee now!

**puts on coffee maker**

Coffee prices have been rising quite sharply over the last couple of years as a result of bad harvests. Supply and demand crap.

Would have a look on google or similar for your favourite brands/style of coffee and buy online, sometimes you can find real bargains.

lol, I've just run out I have withdrawal symptoms already! I know it's decaf but I still seem to get them, I think it's psychological or something.

fruit_cake 04-01-2012 07:44 PM

This will disgust coffee snobs I know but I genuinly think the nicest coffee in the world is straight up Maxwell House in a mug with milk and two sugars. We have a coffee maker here and I've tried about a dozen different blends and I'd rather just drink Maxwell House.

Mind you I'm more of a tea man anyway. I don't know how people drink coffee all day. It just constantly makes me crash and give me an iffy stomach. Plus tea goes great with a bit of the 'erb.

I know it is definately psychological with me, I know I can probably function fine without my morning coffee but I don't want to - I love the smell and taste it's like a big warm hug in the morning!

I know it has caffeine in and yadda yadda but I'm also addicted to caffeine free coke, so how does that work, right? haha

I think that if you like it, drink it - it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.. I myself am partial to a nice cup of tea in the evenings although i'd probably substitute the 'erb (it doesn't agree with me) for a nice figurine...

I quite like Tea but I'd be thinking of coffee

Yeah, me too if I'm honest..I only drink tea because in my head I think it has less caffeine than tea(probably not true anyway) so I think it's better to drink at night so as not to keep me awake... Maybe decaf Coffee / tea is the way forward...

 do you normally drink caffeinated? I don't mind it if I'm out of the house but always decaf at home.

Shasown 04-01-2012 09:09 PM

Cant drink tea at all, its caffeine and tanin content kill me, can drink red wine, or full leaded coffee but never within a couple of hours of each other.

Its the "kryptonite" to my otherwise Greek God like physique.

Yes always with coffee and tea, i tried my friends decaf tea once ( she carries decaf teabags around in her handbag with her as caffeinated affects her...ahem..lets just say...weirdly..) and really didn't like the taste but that could have been her brand. I tried a decaf coffee at works machine once as well and it tasted a bit funny but then none of the coffee in that machine tasted amazing to be fair. Maybe I should try the decaf ground but I'm scared my brain will think subconsiuosly think 'No caffeine!' and function even less than it does now!!!

Whats that in real money?

MattySlug 07-01-2012 12:12 PM

Rip off Babycino = 76 p

$4.80 AUD = 3 Pound . 6 pence

I used Australia post cash rate to get the prices.
Using XE or another converter would get a bit more value

Bollo 07-01-2012 06:04 PM

Crikey that's dear...i usually pay £1.40 for a medium coffee at my local coffee house, don't know what the hell a Babycino is tho..
