Would you take the red or the blue pill?

Warning, contains Matrix spoilers

In the first film of the Matrix trilogy, Thomas A. Anderson, a hacker of the alias "Neo" hears rumors of "The Matrix" and a mysterious man named "Morpheus". Neo spends his nights at the computer trying to discover the secret of The Matrix. Eventually he is introduced to Morpheus by another hacker called "Trinity".

Morpheus alludes to the fact that the reality that Neo is accustomed to is a lie and that Morpheus can show him the truth. He is asked to make a choice between two pills, red and blue. The blue pill will cause him to "wake up in [his] bed and believe whatever [he wants] to believe." He is told that if he takes the red pill, however, he will "stay in Wonderland" and Morpheus will "show [him] how deep the rabbit hole goes".

Neo chooses the red pill and is illuminated as to the true nature of the Matrix; a detailed simulation of Earth circa 1999, which keeps the inhabitants, whose physical bodies are stored in massive power plants, complacent in a mental prison, in order to convert their heat and bioelectrical energy into power for machine consumption.

The terms were popularized in science fiction culture via the 1999 film The Matrix. In the movie, the main character Neo is offered the choice between a red pill and a blue pill, with the red pill leading to his "escape" from the Matrix, a fictional computer-generated world, while the blue pill would allow him to remain in the world with no knowledge that anything is wrong.

Just say no.

Marc 14-01-2012 08:57 PM

The Matrix is such crap so I'd pick the Blue pill

Lee. 14-01-2012 09:03 PM

I didn't understand the fulm.. it was possibly the most boring few hours of my life, so I don't really get the question :)

Marc 14-01-2012 09:03 PM

Pick blue then Lee

GypsyGoth 14-01-2012 09:06 PM

The Red Pill.

Stu 14-01-2012 09:20 PM

Red always. The whole Cypher philosophy of ignorance is bliss is tempting and all but I'm driven by my heart with things like this. Plus I'd get to have a kick about with Morpheus and the lads and have a go at being Jesus.

The Matrix is also a great example of being one of those movies that really isin't at all complicated yet spawns a viewer that half pays attention and comes out complaining that it gave them a headache.

What the hell like. It's totally straightfoward. They even had two colour paletts throughout the movie so you could tell which world you were in.

Lee. 14-01-2012 09:20 PM

K.. blue pill for me please Shaun. :)

-thinks this is Shaun's underhand way of administering rohypnol-

Niall 14-01-2012 10:57 PM

The blue pill because I wouldn't want to see the horrific state that reality is in.

fruit_cake 14-01-2012 10:58 PM

I really liked the matrix, probably the red pill

In my experience, he's quite transparent in his methods of doing that. lol

If I were in Neo's position I'd take the red pill, because he has nothing to lose and everything to gain, but in my position of having a family etc. then I might as well continue life in ignorant bliss.

Kate! 14-01-2012 11:22 PM

I will say red pill, as red is my fave colour, though it signifies danger. Ah what the hell.

Z 14-01-2012 11:37 PM

Let's take lots of red and blue pills

Vicky. 15-01-2012 10:43 AM

Red, definitely.

Vicky. 15-01-2012 10:45 AM

And whenever I think about this film I start thinking its real. Well...that it could be real and stuff. Its a bit hard to explain unless you know what I mean but in the end or my hour long musings I feel all floaty and faint and have convinced myself that Im not real.

Bollo 15-01-2012 11:54 AM

Both at the same time, just to see what would happen

Ninastar 15-01-2012 12:23 PM

Blue is a prettier colour, so Blue

Benjamin 15-01-2012 12:27 PM

Blue pill please.

Scarlett. 15-01-2012 12:30 PM

Blue pill, I mean really? Chose between a hard, but overall normal world and a post apocolyptic cold world where you will never see the sun and have to live next to the earth's core just to survive, I'm with Cypher, I'd choose the matrix.

Shaun 15-01-2012 04:43 PM

everyone saying a colour because it's prettier

kill yourself

Stu 15-01-2012 04:47 PM

I can't believe the amount of blue pills. Keanu Reeves died for your sins and this is how you repay him?
