Have you ever had a computer virus?

I've never had any bad ones but today I opened my internet as usual and I got a full screen message telling me the metropolitan police had locked my computer and I had to pay £100 :suspect: I logged off and on and its all working okay now..

I was wondering if anyone else has ever had a bad virus? If so, ..what happened

Smithy 18-01-2012 11:25 PM

I had one pop up on my wallpaper saying you have a computer virus,I had to go onto safe mode to sort it all out.

Jords 18-01-2012 11:29 PM

I had a virus telling me I had a really bad virus constantly in a warning pop-up and wouldnt let me open anything or surf the web.

MTVN 18-01-2012 11:30 PM

Yeah I've had a couple, just used system restore and it seemed to solve the problem

I had that same virus, except when I closed it it carried on and I had to mess around all night getting rid of it

Shaun 18-01-2012 11:33 PM

haven't had one in years

GypsyGoth 18-01-2012 11:36 PM

Yep, the last one stopped me starting up the computer, well it would start up, but it would go to safemode or something, and I'd have like 5 options in a menu but nothing I selected would get me to the desktop. I tried to reformat a few times and it wouldn't let me, so I just left it on for a few hours (I was panicking), anyway when I came back to it, it allowed me to reformat. Since then I've been more careful about where I steal my music from.

I had one that thought it was all clever, blocking my antivirus and internet and everything

I killed it by manually editing my registry. Hah, didnt think of that no did you... evil virus thing :joker:

InOne 18-01-2012 11:42 PM

Only one bad one that I picked up on rare Facebook visit - it took over my Windows XP PC and prevented all my attempts at removal - in the end, I paid £80 for a pro job - it took them 2 hours to clean my machine, but a friend of mine with the same infection wanted to save money so he tried it himself and took 3 days, barely eating or sleeping during the process .....

I haven't had a virus on my laptop yet -touch wood- but our desktop computer got one a while ago and my Dad just bought a laptop instead rather than sort it out. The machine was 6 years old anyways.

Malwarebytes Anti-malware

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebyte...-10804572.html

Superantispyware

http://www.superantispyware.com/

OP needs to download these programs, install them, make sure they're updated, and then do a full scan on your comp.

Logging on and off won't fix the viruses. Both of these programs are safe, and easy to use. What anti-virus do you use? AVG have a pretty good free one, if you're stuck.

This.

A virus doesn't just go away and if you don't find it and remove it then it will only get worse.

I remember years ago I got the familiy PC a virus by looking up Pete Burns porn video :/

Sarah. 19-01-2012 08:23 PM

I had one on my laptop about a year ago, I was on Twitter and suddenly the internet crashed and this anti virus called 'anti vir' popped up saying I had a virus and I needed to install it. Obviously this 'anti virus' was the virus and it wouldn't let me do anything. :( I panicked, shut down my computer and took it to a store to get it fixed. :bored:

Kaspersky has been telling me for months that I have a virus but believe it or not it's a fault with their program so I don't actually have a virus but it keeps saying I do. :bored:

GypsyGoth 19-01-2012 09:05 PM

I just used that superantispyware and found 4 trojan viruses :conf2:

Are they really trojans though or do you have any cracked programs on your computer?

Sometimes things like that are picked up as trojans or other viruses but they are false positives.

GypsyGoth 19-01-2012 09:22 PM

I don't know that much about them, it gave me the option to get rid of them and reboot, so I picked that :D

And I sometimes download zip and rar files of music, if I can't find mp3 versions of the album to download. So I reckon that's how I got them.

Ninastar 19-01-2012 09:28 PM

yeah i had one, and my dad saw a naked woman ad pop up

it was hawkward
