Jesus vs. Religion

So I got shown this video in school today during form time and I found it really interesting (I'm not sure if there's been a thread on this or not already..so):

I pretty much agree with everything this guy is saying. He said nearly everything I thought about organised Christianity in 4 minutes.

Thoughts?

I have no religious (or Jesus? :suspect:) beliefs, but that video is brilliant.

Jesus. 20-01-2012 02:17 PM

Jesus did/said some pretty ****ty things, too, it's just that we don't get to hear thee stories.

It was anything but a cult vid, cult's are systematic and organisational which is what this guy was arguing against. I don't believe in Jesus but this was actually a decent video, and with a good message as well

Its a message of nonsense and wishful thinking that helps no one. Identifying problems is officially the easiest job there is.

Jesus was a jew who was religious and followed the bible (OT) to the letter. This guy seems to think her is the first person to realise that religion is just a bunch of blokes with rules trying to make themselves important.

Excuse me? It's a "cult video from america" because he says he loves the bible? I don't think it's me who's the moron here.

Maybe if you actually listened to the video you'd hear that it has some pretty interesting ideas and info. It helped me to see Christianity in a different light.

Not at all really. Most people probably wouldn't think of religion as the problem and Jesus as the answer and they probably wouldn't question it. He's just trying to make the problems that religion brings explicit and obvious to everyone in a clever way. I mean I never really separated the ideas of Jesus and the church before in the sense that he talks about, and from the looks of thought on nearly everyone else's faces yesterday, they hadn't seen things in the same manner either.

Christianity is a Jesus cult. it is based on lies and guilt.

Ok so if Christianity is the cult, then how is a video preaching against it a "cult video from America"?

If you have not separated jesus from church then I would suggest that you did not understand what christian religion actually was, just like the berk in the video.

church can be 2 Christians meeting in a wood, for example.

"The word cult in current popular usage usually refers to a new religious movement or other group whose beliefs or practices are considered abnormal or bizarre" - wiki

believing that a dead man came alive again would be my first call...

You're missing my point.

He said that he used to think religion was the way to Jesus and that he just went along with it but never truly believed. To use his analogy "it's like buying a lakers shirt and saying you play for them".

And I'd say it's pretty accurate to think that most Christians believe that the church is the way to god and that it isn't a personal thing but rather something that has to be ritualistic etc, and that they probably haven't considered that you can get to god and Jesus by yourself should you try.

He's trying to point that out, as am I. I'm fully aware that church can be anywhere, but I'm not talking about the building I'm talking about the organisation and ritualistic 'church' that Christians (like myself) are supposed to follow.

Christianity isn't a cult. It doesn't force members to remain in their church or brainwash them or anything like that. Don't be ridiculous.

Christianity brainwashes children before they can make informed decisions - witness SUnday school and the filthy catholic religion, witness jews mutilating boys. Its a cult and a big cult.

Hebrews 10:25
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (NIV)

the reason for church is the flippin bible itself. if that guy actually read his bible he would realise what a silly rant he has created
