he's english born but he's of black caribbean descent
lots of black caribbean immigrants settled in particular parts of London and their english born kids grew up in mainly black caribbean areas so they retained a lot of the dialects of countries like Jamaica, Trinidad etc
it's kind of a mix between cockney and the caribbean accents that you hear from London born black caribbeans
it's understandable why an american would be confused by this and just assume that a black celebrity is america
Sisqo was in the 2010 one and Coolio was in 2009 so there is a history of CBB and black american rappers/singers

To be fair we do not know what conversations have gone on between Romeo and Michael, perhaps Romeo has american ancestary. Now this would have been a point of chat between them. They must have all been looking for a common ground to enjoy their banter with each HM.
