I get the feeling they put that ignorant retarded crowd out there to confuse the housemates.

It's the casual viewers who live close to the studios. Die hards who look at the show in a different light much prefer to stay at home and discuss it on forums/twitter etc. The people you get in the crowds 80% of the time are those that are spoonfed what the show wants them to believe via all the mediums
