Again, I have no problem with protecting copyright, but turning into a China-esque policed state is NOT they way to go about it. Suppression of information is a very dangerous game. |
Exactly Chewy and we should not be told what Avatar or Signatures we should have either.

I think going after the uploaders of copyrighted material e.g. films, books, games are the ones who should face charges, and they deserve punishment.
But, think of it like this: Minecraft is a indie game that rose to fame because people made Youtube videos, Tweeted about it, blogged about it on tumblr, talked and posted pictures of it on forums. Now consider this, all those methods of promotion are banned, Minecraft, possibly the biggest most revolutionary game in recent years would have simply been ignored. The developers don't benefit, they lose out, there's no websites to promote their games because they're illegal under ACTA. |
Those methods wouldn't be banned, unless those major wwebsites didn't properly moderate them. The internet is MEDIA, if the TV stations and newspapers are expected to carefuly chose what they publish, then why shouldn't major websites also be responsible for what they publish??
The truth is Google and Facebook and Twitter should be hiring hundreds of Americans to edit their websites, they get away with having a minimum staff though. Why can't google, a multi-billion dollar company hire hundreds of Americans to monitor it's site? Google could create hundreds of new jobs if this bill passed. That would be Good for the American economy. These multimillion dollar companies are trying to get away with having people m onitor themselves, when they could be creating thousands of new jobs in the American economy. They arn't protesting because they are worried about censorship, they are protesting because they don't want to have to create new jobs, and actually GIve Americans JOBS. |
I'm not even that bothered about copyright uploaders, intellectual property sucks
|
Google and all these other silicon vally companies are not worried about censorship, they are worried about having to do more work, and hiring more people, causing their bottom line to go down, and losing PROFITS.
Cause if they had to hire people to moderate their sites, they'd lose PROFITS. |
hey don't want to have to HIRE more PEOPLE, that's the real issue.

The internet as it stands today is the ownly place that the people truely control, the internet is free from the lies that Ministers and Senators want you to believe. |
Poland is planning to sign the agreement apparently. I don't really know what that means in the grand scheme of things though

ACTA is horrific it makes it legal to carry out deep packet inspections on all of your internet traffic so they can monitor everything you do online including your personal emails :nono: There was an enquiry called the gallo report that was to see if there was a need for ACTA and if it was backed by people in the entertainment industry. The final gallo report came with the backing via signatures of some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry. Strangely some of the people they claimed had signed it swore that they hadnt and two of the names were of people that had been dead for at least four years. They still used the gallo report as proof for the need of ACTA :nono: corrupt as hell. |
