Do you think the Times should publish a cartoon of Mohammed?

Say it had a good joke regarding a Islamic news story. Do you think it should or any other UK paper, publish it?

if not why?

bear in mind that anti-semitic cartoons are published widely by newspapers in Islamic areas, for example.

So your message is appeasement?

Islam is the only religion that would act with violence. So they most likely avoid it.

Do you think that is a good move however. Should they stop doing stories on the mafia or crims in London for fear of reprisal?

Dunno, they're probably pretty wary about what they print after the whole news of the world thing. I think they should just do whatever they want, but it only takes a little spark to ignite the Islamic world as we've seen before.

I'm guessing you're a fairly new atheist. You probably discovered Dawkins and Hitchens about a year ago and now feel emboldened to share your atheism with a generally insane religious world.

However, any point you are trying to make, is completely undone by your last sentence. Those anti-semitic cartoons you mention, are simply racist. They are written by racists, to be read by racists.

Now, if we are holding up Racist cartoons, as the ideal for us to meet, then you are woefully off the mark.

Free speech is an absolute right in my view, and the fear of causing offence is not something that should be a concern. But doing things to purely antagonise a section of the population, is not really any better.

I'm not sure what kind of cartoon joke would be made better by drawing Mohamed.
