An American on BBC1 this morning just said Wanker
Mitch Benn
and a American talking about UK shows that go to USA. He said Like Wanker - we do not use. He thought "Wanker" could be used at any hour. Of Course in our shows we do not use "Wanker" only after 9PM. |
Worse has been said by brits...

I prefer your posts about pasties to be honest

'wanker' often springs to mind if I watch breakfast tv

OT Niamh, and don't read any meaning into this being a 'wanker' thread.....is that a new Gerard movie in your Avatar?
|
I wouldn't know it was that offensive a word eigther.
Just for the benefit of us Americans, could someone post the official "banned words" before the watershed list? I'd find it interesting. I bet there are a few other words Americans wouldn't think of as that bad eigther. Kinda like how you guys say fag(for cigarette) all the time, but it's really offensive here. |
Joan Rivers was on Loose Women a few years ago and said "Russell Crowe is *****ing Sh*t" on air :laugh2:

Isnt the whole 'watershed' thing because some old granny didnt like hearing swearing on tv in the 60s or something?

No its Tots are up sometimes then Love the naughty words. Like this morning a 3 year old Tot at a table can say "Mummy whats a Wanker" as The Kitched TV is on , thinking Bloated BBC is safe She will switch to ITV1HD Daybreak tomorrow. |
The best one was back in the 70's 6pm show
Reporter Reg Grundy getting the Sex Pistals to say a rude word, so they said to reg " You Dirty Little Fecker" The Clip was shown on SkyArts1HD |

can you say "knob" and on morning tv? what about "shag"?
|
Nob and shag are not classed as swear words. Do people even still use the word shag? It's such an 80's word along with bonk.

that would probably have the presenters sucking in their breath, but not apologising to viewers |

Bonk is such a horrible word.
|
Bonk and shag are stupid words. Very cheesy and dated.
But, "wanker" is forgivable. It's not that bad a word and obviously doesn't mean the same in America. I remember Matthew Fox being interviewed on Jonathan Ross and had no idea what Ross was going on about talking about "wanking". It only twigged 10 mins in and he got the joke. lol |
haha bonk, not heard that in a while in yorks we said 'jump' and friggin ell was classed as a really bad swear, it was 1984...:)
