Feds have seized sports streaming sites in effort to curb Super Bowl piracy

The Federal government sure has been busy the past few weeks when it comes to curbing piracy on the internet. In its latest move, the Feds have seized several domains that are used to stream illegal broadcasts of sporting events. With the Super Bowl this Sunday, officials are looking to make another statement on piracy by replacing the content on each site with the banner pictured above. So if you were hoping to use your favorite steaming site to catch the game, you may be out of luck.

Domains that have been included in the seizure are Firstrowsports.tv, Firstrowsports.com, Firstrowsports.net and Soccertvlive.net, with more most likely being added as the week proceeds. It’s interesting to note is that this marks the fist time a .tv domain has been seized in relation to the NFL championship. While seizures of this nature happened last year at the same time, this round of raids may be hitting a sore-spot with internet denizens because of the recent protests of SOPA and the governments response to said protests.

Believe it or not, the NFL has several rules in place concerning the viewing of the Super Bowl. These came as a result of non-profit groups such as churches and youth centers showing the game to large groups of people. Non-profits can show the game if they use equipment that they already own to display the action, meaning that they can’t rent TV’s or projectors for the event. Also, they can’t charge any kind of fee to people who come to watch.

Besides rebroadcasting violations, most streaming sports site have ads that display which they make money off of. While this doesn’t look like a direct violation since clicking on those ads is voluntary, someone is still getting paid for rebroadcasting something they don’t own.

The good news is that there will be some legal ways to watch the Super Bowl online, ensuring that you won’t miss any of the action.

For now.

Does it broadcast any US sports?

King Gizzard 02-02-2012 09:53 PM

don't even think about myp2p or atdhe

King Gizzard 02-02-2012 09:54 PM

I find it funny how we get superbowl free and they get all premier league games free

BBfanUSA 02-02-2012 09:54 PM

Doesn't the FA do this as well? There is seriously a message at the beginning and end of each NFL broadcast saying thank you for watching Today's presentation of the NFL. We would like to thank you for not retransmitting this broadcast without the written consent of the nfl.

not really all games. Just the big games like MU vs Chelsea, MU vs MC, Arsenal vs Liverpool. Etc. ESPN is a cable/satellite channel and most on the games are on Fox Soccer Channel, a similar channel.

Callum 02-02-2012 09:57 PM

The BBC are broadcasting it

Stream2watch, firstrowsports.eu and atdhe are still up and they're the ones I always use, it's such bollocks all these streaming sites getting closed down though, they can never get rid of them all

King Gizzard 02-02-2012 10:10 PM

There deffinitely needs to be individual sports subscriptions, we pay ridiculous amounts for sky and we only watch the sports channels mainly

If there was a tv/internet subscription thing where I could just pay for Premier League/other league games (like Fox soccer channel in the US, I know a few Americans who have it) that would be amazing and they'd make a hell of a lot of money

MTVN 02-02-2012 10:14 PM

I think on Freeview you can get Sky Sports 1 & maybe 2 now if you pay a bit more, they come up on my guide anyway, that'd be probably be cheaper but you wouldn't get all the sports channels I guess

michael21 02-02-2012 10:26 PM

its free on bbc1  Feds

also the title of this thread sound like a arista thread :suspect::laugh:

BBfanUSA 02-02-2012 10:50 PM

I think it's for people outside of the uk. The "Freeview" stations in the US pay alot of money to get brodcasting rights. Every league asks money for the right to broadcast games. Techinically they're getting it for free when they shouldn't be able too.

(We only get 5 or 6 freeview stations, and they're reigonally controlled so if your channels are showing games you don't wanna watch you have to dole out extra cash in order to watch them. In fact i think Directtv has exclusive rights to that, which is BS) (ABC,CBS,NBC,PBS,Fox, and, CW/Mystation, depends on where you live)

www.Firstrowsports.eu working lovely and enjoying record numbers of visitors thanks to the free publicity it was given.

The site has being declared lawful in a spanish court just another instance of America overstepping its juristiction once again.
