According to the rumours Square Enix will announce Final Fantasy XV at a special E3 2012 press conference in June. There are no details offered about the game but it is stated as being developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U.

We haven't seen the magazine in question yet, but according to website The Silent Chief it is GamesMaster which is the source of the rumours.

On the face of it everything sounds quite plausible too. Square Enix itself has described the debacle of massively multiplayer online game Final Fantasy XIV as having 'greatly damaged' the brand.

While early reports from Japan suggest that Final Fantasy XIII-2 has sold much less than usual for a numbered sequel. (Although the game is specifically aimed more at Western audience, so may do better here).

All of which is a good reason for getting a new game out quickly and attempting a fresh new start for the franchise.

Square Enix has also spoken of their desire to release new mainline entries in the series more quickly than the usual three, four or even five year development periods that have previously been the norm. There has also been hints that Final Fantasy XV could be a more action-based game, in the style of Western-made games like Mass Effect.

The Wii U aspect of the story also isn't surprising. Square Enix gets on perfectly well now with Nintendo, and if the Wii U is at least as powerful as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 then there's no reason for a new game not to appear on it.

With this year being the 25th Anniversary of the franchise, I can see it happening

Hope Final Fantasy XV is set in an era like Final Fantasy IX

I hope it's based around a big adventure like X and XIII, after XIII-2 I really have hope for the series again, they seem to be listening to fans.

Hidden away in an email about the company’s plans for E3 reveals, Square Enix claims that it will "unveil the first look at the next generation of Final Fantasy," along with already-revealed plans to offer new details on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

That statement implies we’ll finally find out what Square Enix has been doing with its next-gen Luminous Studio, which was revealed at last year’s E3. Some have speculated that the tech demo entitled Agni’s Philosophy from that presentation might actually be an early glimpse of the story and artistic direction for Final Fantasy XV, though it's an assertion that Square Enix has not supported. We’ve included the full movie below.

In addition to its Final Fantasy lineup, Square Enix also plans to show Murdered: Soul Suspect, Thief, and the newly announced mobile installment in the Deus Ex series entitled Deus Ex: The Fall.

No matter what the next-gen Final Fantasy announcement is, and if Square Enix has any other surprises up its sleeve, we’ll have full details when Square Enix pulls back the curtain next week at the big show.

Sounds good, needs to be massive improvements all round though to get it back to being the best RPG series

The main rumour I've been hearing is that Versus is FF15, I think it's a possibility but it's more likely that they've dropped the '13' part of it's title and will just release it as it's own entity as a PS4 exclusive.

Given that Lightning Returns is coming out in February I doubt we'll get any PS3 FF games after that so it must have been bumped up to Next Gen.
