Do straight men/women like gay men/women?

I was wondering do straight men like gay men and do straight women like lesbian women? when I say 'like' I mean it in a friendly way

Only reason I ask is because I notice lots of women have gay friends and some men have lesbian friends, but you rarely see it the other way around :conf:

Is it down to stereotyping or just difference in personalities?

and its all very well saying "sexual orientation doesnt matter" but does it actually matter to certain people?

Lesbians hate men and gay men act camp. That's why women don't mind being around gay men. Less of a "threat".

From my experience it is the personality that matters.

That includes being extremely camp. So, just because a bloke couldn't be friends with a really camp man doesn't mean he's homophobic.

I'm thinking like that really skinny guy who was on BOTS supporting Amy Childs, he was tooo camp.

I have quite a few straight male friends... and although I'm not really a fan of cars/most sports I can get along with them :p I mean it's not like I talk dick 24/7...

Patrick 19-02-2012 11:54 AM

I don't like those Lesbians that dress all butch and stuff, like Shirley of EastEnders - they just freak me out. I'm Sorry, but I like those lipstick lesbians
More and more lately though I've been running into girls who I try to flirt with, and they end up saying they have a girlfriend. :bored:

As for Gays, I don't really mind them tbh I find them hilarious and they're actually great banter.
It's just when they try to flirt with you and hit on you [which happens to me alot nowadays] and you're like 'Dude, I don't swing that way' and they don't take no for an answer, other than that - they are cool.

Not really, the media just prefers camp men to regular gay men.

Chuck 19-02-2012 11:59 AM

I have more lesbian friends than straight female friends and the majority of my male friends are straight.

Why would you assume I'm going by the media?

It's where most people get the idea from, my dad is gay, quite a number of people I work with are, and several of my friends are, only one of all those people is what I would call "camp", on the flip side, I know straight people who act in a camp way.

Ammi 19-02-2012 12:11 PM

The gay men I know aren't 'stereotypical' at all...not camp, and they hate 'girl talk'....I haven't had a decent 'outfit tip' out of them at all yet tbh...I don't find them any different to anyone else...male or female.

But that's just examples of people you know who aren't camp.

Exactly. But you were generalising that "gay men are camp". When some are and some aren't as is the case with straight people too.

Kizzy 19-02-2012 12:41 PM

I think you would be more likely to see a straight woman with lesbian friends, than a straight man with gay friends.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 19-02-2012 12:43 PM

you know how straight women lez up to turn guys on

well it would be hot is straight guys did that js

Am alright being mates with normal ones, but the over the top annoying ones are worse than the butch lesbians.

I really don't like stereotypical gay people. I think most of the time it's an act and the only reason they act that way is because they have no idea how to act like a 'calm' gay person. It's all over the media how they should act. It's for attention, it really annoys me.

Braden 19-02-2012 01:43 PM

I think straight men and women are intimidated to be nice to gay people of the same sex because they don't want people to think they're more than just friends with that person. That's how I see it now, it may be different when I grow up but a lot of the straight people at my school are very aware of how people percieve them.

This.

I tend to judge people on personality rather than sexual orientation.

King Gizzard 19-02-2012 03:58 PM

Don't really have a problem with any of them unless theyre really really camp

SharkAttack 19-02-2012 04:12 PM

Used to live in an area where it was a melting pot of very interesting people in my 20s. As a hetero male I had several gay male friends and my roommate for a few years was a lesbian female. Never a dull moment. http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/p...tial/laugh.gif
