Walking/Hiking/Tramping

I don't often discuss this interest of mine on here, yet I know quite a few of you that also love to go on walks or go hiking. Which do you prefer, and what makes you want to go on them?

For myself, I love the sense of freedom I feel when going on long walks or hikes. I feel so alive, noticing all these small details of the world that many will never witness; be it the first flower of the spring , a hedgehog hunting for food or the church yard at night under a full moon and a ground mist. I feel like I escape my reality to such a beautiful place, and it makes me realise how great the Earth actually is. I also love to walk in various types of weather, even during thunderstorms and snow, just to see how different my usual walks look.

I think I'd take the dog on more long walks if we lived somewhere interesting, but everywhere I live is so boring

There is a really nice walk that literally goes from my house/street round all the back streets, through these woods that comes out onto bournemouth gardens and then onto the beach. The New Forest is near me too, it has deers, ponies and rabbits running round

I do too, me and my sis love the waterfall walk in north yorks :) im so glad winter is over (crosses fingers) i love walking but hate extreme cold and dark days.

Kizzy 02-03-2012 11:49 PM

well jel bollo! :) get on a bus smithy! my doggie loves a bus ride

I prefer going on walks (usually about 3 a week), although I think I'd love to go on more hikes. But with walking, I much prefer coldish weather and cloudy skies. And I love how thinking seems easier, maybe it's cause I have fewer distractions.

That sounds nice. Also, the New Forest is amazing. I used to go on walks there with my Grandparents as a kid. It's them and that place that got me into walks in the first place.

I find I really enjoy the extreme cold and dark days on the odd occasion, the air is so crisp and eerily quiet.

From about the age of 8 til 14 I'd go hiking in Wales with my grandparents. I loved it. Could do with going again.

Walking clears my head so much, I think about everything and its like a huge release.....always feel great afterwards.

MTVN 02-03-2012 11:55 PM

I do actually quite like the odd walk in the country, or where there's nice scenery on the coast

Bollo 02-03-2012 11:57 PM

Yeah I'm really lucky 'cos where I live there are quite a few towns to go if you like the hustle bustle but if you go out a couple miles you got the beach one side and loads of countryside on the other with loads of quaint little villages. We go walking in Lulworth cove and also the village of Corfe with Corfe castle is lovely

Iceman 03-03-2012 12:06 AM

I live next door to one of the biggest parks in the word!!!! never utilise it though......

Hike walk or run, it really does depend on my mood and sometimes the weather.

I live on the Moray coast, one of the most scenic areas of our blessed Isles, within easy reach of highland treks, mountain climbs woodland walks or coastal ambles and every conceivable variation.

God is good to me, I know I dont deserve it ;) Does that make you jealous?

Kizzy 03-03-2012 12:33 AM

Yes muchly, musn't grumble though would hate to live inner city london :/

I'm planning on an 8 hour walk today. Need to get back in the routine in preparation for New Zealand.

Beats me ..... 4 hours/10 miles is my limit .....

King Gizzard 15-03-2012 04:12 AM

If we never hear from you again, we know what's happened

Ammi 15-03-2012 04:13 AM

....I love walking...clears the head

CharlieO 15-03-2012 06:57 AM

I love long walks. On the weekend I just sneak of the school campus and walk wherever. No plans I just go.

I love exploring alternate countries by walking though. Like in New Zealand I went on a day hike/cycle and it was so amazing. I want to go back.

Benjamin 15-03-2012 01:26 PM

Weather has not been my friend today, and as much as I like walking in the rain, a long walk is out of the question as I don't have my waterproofs to hand.

Niamh. 15-03-2012 01:31 PM

I'd like to get into hiking actually, just seems a bit more challenging/interesting than walking.

It is very bright and sunny here. Shorts weather.

Benjamin 15-03-2012 01:58 PM

Oh, first Livia and now you. I hope a hurricane comes your way. :hmph:

CharlieO 15-03-2012 02:00 PM

Well that isn't very likely in this part of the globe is it. :idc:

I still rather be in Sing lying by the pool. And you get to go to NZ soon so shush because I am so jealous.
