Boarded up shops?

Has anyone recently had quite a few vacant shops in their town, it has by me and all because of the recession or businesses moving on.

King Gizzard 07-03-2012 06:54 PM

Loads of empty shops here now, Internet is so much more convenient

Patrick 07-03-2012 06:55 PM

Yeah - my Mum was made unemployed last month, because Argos in town shut down aswell.

There is a few new businesses moving here and they're trying to claim it will make things better but this country is in the **** right now, it is getting worse everywhere.

MTVN 07-03-2012 06:59 PM

Yeah there's a lot in my nearest big town, down one street it's literally all shops boarded up, 'tis a shame

Kizzy 07-03-2012 07:01 PM

Everyone want to hang out at the mall y'all....

bbfan1991 07-03-2012 07:03 PM

Yeah, especially as people cannot afford to keep going to the big shopping places in the cities to shop as it is too expensive.

Me. I Am Salman 07-03-2012 07:04 PM

Nope that hasn't happened where I live
The last major shop they closed down was Woolworths :bawling:

Ammi 07-03-2012 07:09 PM

We have a new shopping arcade and most of the shops have moved there...so the 'old town' is like a ghost town...which is sad because the buildings looked beautiful before they were boarded

InOne 07-03-2012 07:28 PM

1in5 shops boarded up on the highstreet here

Bollo 07-03-2012 07:38 PM

Not that I've noticed, but then we get loads of grockles and students here, so the town is always busy

Nope, I live in Blackpool, so the recession has basically meant there has been more people coming here than before xD

waterhog 07-03-2012 09:01 PM

the shops are a joke - how are we meant to get out of a recession if there is not money to bye into these shops - vicious circle.

Josy 07-03-2012 09:14 PM

Lots of our shops have been boarded up for years now and most of the ones that are still open are sunbeds and take away shops :bored:

Sounds like a perfect advertisement for TOWIE:joker:.

It's very sad to see, you would think rather than be left empty Councils and Govt would take some steps to at least have something going on inthem until perhaps some buyers or other businesses showed interest.
