I got a new tattoo (again)
 

It looks diddy but this is the start of a project, in the end I hope to have the top of my arm covered but yeah, had this done tonight, finished about an hour ago and I love it. Thought I'd show it off!



Tattoos aren't everyone's thing but yeah, I love mine and the meanings that come from them.

An hour ago? Don't they usually do those detailed tattoos over the course of a few separate appointments?

^ Yeah sorry, my last session was tonight. This took 3 sessions to get the shading/gradients correct.

Honestly the pain is nothing really. You get used to it after about 5 minutes. It's just a really long burn/sting.

Going over boney areas isn't much fun though so I've heard (ribs, ankles, feet etc)

I'd rather have 100 tattoos than my tragus and labret pierced again, omg.

Not a huge fan of tattoos, but I love that design.

I like tattoos, but prefer black ones as opposed to colour. I want to get one last one done but I'm finding it really hard to draw out what I want and make it look right...Do you sketch out your references and If so, where do you get your research from?

Mine's black and grey not colour, I prefer the tones of shaded tattoos to colour also.

The best thing to do is just collect a LOAD of ideas together, take them to your tattooist and discuss with him to get an outcome that you're happy with. If they're talented they'll easily come up with a design to incorporate all the elements you're looking for.

This tattoo for me, each object has meaning, so I researched tattoos for the different meanings and found that certain objects/items represented them (i.e. - the diamond represents wealth and success) and asked her if she could come up with a design incorporating everything. We had difficulty though and eventually found a design on Google I loved (this design but it was MASSIVE in the picture and in colour, I wanted to scale it down so I could add to it in future) so really it was back to square one ha!

It's good to design your own though because at least then it's original!

Tragus = piece of ear cartilage.

Labret = lip.

That looks cool. I was gonna ask if you'd designed it yourself ('cause I follow you on Tumblr and know you draw a lot of musicians and stuff) but then I saw the Google post :p
