Russell Brand has been arrested for criminal damage after police in the US issued a warrant for him.

The comedian and actor was detained "without incident" in New Orleans on Thursday (15 March) and released shortly afterwards after posting bail.

Police issued a warrant on a charge of criminal damage to property valued at $700 (£450).

A photographer has accused the 36-year-old of grabbing his smartphone and throwing it through a window.

Bail was set at $5,000 (£3,200), a spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) said.

Brand is in New Orleans working on a film.

Smashed window

Remi Braden, director of public affairs at the New Orleans Police Department, said: "Officers picked up Mr Brand from Harrah's Casino, where he was working on a film.

"He was arrested without incident."

Russell Brand had claimed he took the phone as "a tribute" to Apple boss Steve Jobs, who died last year.

Brand tweeted his fans: "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."
I guess the NO Police will come to an arrangement with both parties since film-making is good for the city ..... ;)

Oh fgs it's only a phone.

i done a poem on this this morning and i dont need to start a thread as someone else has - these are my views but in english - its a sad attempt for a failing actor or what ever he is.

I-phone-Brand

accept it Russell,
everything is crumbling and that's hard alone,
it really is sad and pathetic,
this desperate attempt with the I-phone.
it made you look silly,
a sad game and no other,
you have embarrassed yourself,
more so then on that show big-little brother.
some may say i am jealous,
my envy of your whit and fame is flowing and electrical,
i disagree,
i don't even rate you on your looks for being symmetrical.
i am glad in Hampstead seeing you is rare,
because like the I-phone that is now battered,
you have made me give you publicity,
and i am sure you will be truly flattered.
its all over Russell,
the proof is the comment "saying its some tribute",
Steve Jobs will always be remembered,
but you Russell Brand i will never salute.

It's not about the phone, it's about Brand's attitude :

Brand has been arrested a staggering 11 times in the UK - mainly for public indecency; including stripping to his birthday suit at the 2003 May Day rally in central London.

He was also beaten up then arrested after doing a show in Edinburgh.

Oh the poor baby ...if a nurse following a ten hour shift felt uptight in the centre of leeds, grabbed someones property and launched it through a window. What would happen?.....

Of course I knew about it .....

Since Brand's "protection" of his wife didn't extend much longer, it seems that he has other issues which only require a prod to surface ..... :idc:

As I've pointed out, Brand has been arrested a dozen times in the UK and, additionally, has been forced to apologise for his behaviour at least a dozen times more ..... :suspect:

Japan, of course, decided they didn't want or need him ..... :laugh2:

Kizzy 16-03-2012 12:35 PM

Any person with a brain would realise that assault on another person in a public place usually leads to arrest .....

Kizzy 16-03-2012 01:06 PM

Ok, your mother works in that office ...The phone comes through the window and shards of glass injure her sat at her desk, she requires medical treatment for cuts and shock...Now how do you feel?

And I've pointed out his previous prediliction for anti-social behaviour ..... :idc:

Additionally, I will predict that he will be arrested, again for assault, within the next 12 months and that he will be imprisoned for a similar offence within the next 5 years or less ..... :hmph:
