Channel 5's ratings are very impressive lately
So it seems Channel 5 bought Big Brother not only for the ratings of the show but to build ratings on their other shows aswell and it seems like its worked. The latest ratings are impressive!
Lets remember that last summer we were all talking about Channel 5 shows not even getting a million viewers. This is great news for the Channel but do you think if all these shows start outperforming BB then BB wont seem like its such a hit and therefor face the risk of being axed? Heres an example of the latest figures. Saturday Eddie Stobart: Trucks and Trailers: 1.6m And 1.49m (6.6%) for 9pm's The Mentalist, which had a further 107k (0.6%) on timeshift Friday Live football boosted Channel 5's ratings: 2.53m (13%) and a peak of 4m (Channel 5 secured third place with 7.5%) Thursday Channel 5's NCIS grabbed 1.86m (7.7%), which was preceded by Big Body Squad taking 1.15m (5.1%). (Channel 5 finished 4th place with 5.4%) Wednesday CSI grabs 2.34m (9.4%) in the 9pm hour And Revealed took 1.19m (5.1%) |
Axing BB after what it has done for the channel would be a very bitchy thing to do :suspect:

I only started watching Channel 5 because of BB, it does have some decent shows though, like The Mentalist and NCSI. They better not get rid of BB though :suspect:
|
I don't think they'd be that stupid to get rid of Big Brother, it's their money-grabber with vote to save. Plus they only recently said Big Brother gained them a **** load of revenue so.

Are they not also bringing back "Big Breakfast"? I'd certainly switch to that from Daybreak.
|
Sunday
Overall, BBC One led primetime with 25.2%, beating ITV1's 17.4% (+1: 1.2%). Channel 5 was third with 5.2% |
I like the CSIs sometimes, and i LOVED big breakfast! hope that comes back :)

They don't even need BB. It's a massive waste of money.
|
I was worried about this too at one stage - but I don't think they will.
Well unless The Wright Stuff, CSI and Paddy Doherty Documentaries begin drawing in 3 Million viewers and BB still gets 1 Million. Quote:
'k thanks for your help Big Brother, bye.' Would be a bastardish act. |
Surely thats a bad thing if BB was it's cash cow then a rise in all other programmes ratings make it less valuable

Man United can do that to a TV Channel tbh :idc:

They bought BB obviously for its popularity but also to draw more people to the Channel. They used BB to try and get viewers for their other shows ie: sticking on The Bathcelor inbetween Big Brother on a Friday night. I think they were looking at long term in getting more viewers for other shows they have bought and original prgramming they make. I think its the fact they want to be seen as a seccsefull Channel and not the fail of terrestrial channels that its percieved as. So yeah i think they needed something high profile like BB to draw attention to themselves and it seems like it worked looking at the ratings of other shows. Who would have thought last summer that their shows would be getting over 2 million and some nights beating Channel 4 and BBC 2. |
It has to be said - it's reputation has definitely improved alot since last Summer, and they're taken alot more seriously now.

Channel 5 actually came in 3rd last night. Last night was massive aswell with competition from BGT and Th eVoice
That meant Channel 5 claimed third place with 4.5% (+1: 0.2%), ahead of Channel 4's 4.1% (+1: 0.6%) and BBC Two's 4%. |
