Woman seriously burned decanting petrol

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-17560534

Quote:

A woman suffered serious burns when petrol ignited as she was decanting it in the kitchen of her York home because her daughter had run out of fuel.

The woman, who is in her 40s, suffered 40% burns in the accident in the Acomb area of the city on Thursday.

She has been taken to the burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital.

A fire service spokesman said: "Her daughter asked her mum for petrol because she had run out. The cooker was on and the fumes ignited."

The woman was treated by ambulance personnel in her kitchen before being taken to Pinderfields.

Her condition is not known but a North Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman described the burns as severe.
Regrettable, but inevitable due to the panic caused by the government .....

Have just commented on this in another thread, who will be held accountable for this?
It was direct advice from Francis maude however it was David Cameron who caused the stampede to the pumps....hmmm .
Im surprised there haven't been more incidents like this to be honest.....

Don't think you can hold anyone accountable for this really, it was daft doing it in the first place, especially in a kitchen

Yes big error.

You think some people would make the connection between petrol and fire being dangerous....Jesus....

Yeah, the Tories have totally mismanaged the "alleged" fuel crisis, rallying in support of their commercial cronies to demonise the unions - presumably, they hoped the "drama" would deflect attention from Osborne's intention to rob the poor and feed the rich .....

Exactly!

She was "decanting petrol in her kitchen".

You cannot legislate for fools because they are so ingenious.

Harsh but true, I agree.

Kizzy 30-03-2012 01:07 PM

Just harsh...

Pouring petrol in a kitchen with a gas fire oven on is not something an intelligent person would do.

Kizzy 30-03-2012 01:15 PM

Neither is trying to light farts...but we all know someone who has done it.....

I've never met anyone who has done that.

And I hardly think it's the same as pouring petrol into a jug near an open flame.

There is far too much using my name in vain, in this thread.

The person involved probably fixes electrical appliances in the bath, too.

Although the wider point, is this would never of happened had there not been a fuel panic.

But you can't dispute the naivety (I'm being as polite as possible) of this womans actions.

Not really. I feel sorry for her, but it was her own stupidity that did it.

Totally agree and you would think by the time you reach your 40's you would just know that this would not be a great idea.

I've done it many times, safely, but I know of others who damaged themselves, others and nearby objects in the process, like this one :

That is common knowledge surely? The signs at petrol stations even ask you to not use your mobile phones.
