8 year old boy banned from playing football..for kicking his ball too loudly

A mum has spoken of her outrage after two police officers quizzed her eight-year-old son for kicking a football too loudly.

Beauty therapist Janine Longworth, 39, was stunned when two Police Constable Special Officers arrived at her home following a complaint from a neighbour about her son, Bertie kicking the ball against the front wall of his garden.

The PCSOs said they were following up an 'anonymous noise complaint' and took down Bertie's full name and date of birth. They then told his mother not to let her son play out front with the ball again.

Shocked mum-of-two Janine, from Bolton, Greater Manchester says: "It's just ridiculous that police should come round over an eight-year-old playing football when there must be more serious things going on.

''I would have thought a phone call would have sufficed. At the end of the day it's the start of the school holiday and I would rather my kids be playing out than stuck in. The two officers were really nice but it was just the fact that I couldn't believe that they had been called out for a kid playing football. If he was screaming and noisy and it was a bad time of day then fair enough, but it was 5.30pm

I used to get loads of complaints for playing football in the street :bored: joyless *****.

That's ridiculous, where I used to live we had children playing Football all the time and they used to kick our Sky Dish, but we never reported them and im glad we didn't now after reading this.

Also neighbours need to lighten up as he hasn't broken any laws playing Football in the afternoon, I could understand more if he was intending to break people's windows with the ball.

Kids playing football in my street are a menace to houses, cars and pedestrians - most have been hit by balls at some point, with some suffering more damage than others .....

Ammi 04-04-2012 05:00 PM

..he was too young to go to the park alone..so he was playing where mum could keep an eye on him
..well..not now he's banned

Does this woman not have a back garden that her son can play in? Repetitively kicking a ball against a fence and the noise it creates can be pretty irritating anyway IMO.

But the Mom can't keep taking him to the park to play Football.

Also I doubt the ball was that loud that the neighbours heard it.

..yes but mum is worried about the ball going over the fence of the complaining neighbours..they're obviously not very tolerant

Also of all the crimes to go hard on they go hard on something that isn't even a crime.:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:

The more the Tories stay in the more laughable they become.

Can some other party be running this country instead of one of the top 3 candidates please?:joker:

Don't think this is anything to do with the Tories tbh

As someone who has problems every summer without fail due to this, I agree with the action being taken, it should be addressed by councils providing more things to do/places to go for todays children. I do have sympathy for the child don't get me wrong, but it is really annoying to sit in your home and hear the repetitive thudding of balls  day and night.

Scroogebitch that I am

I don't think it's that ridiculous. You can easily make a lot of noise kicking a ball against a wall.

Used to always happen around here, some moaning old bat around the corner always moaning and threatening to phone the police.

Them 'no ball games' signs are the worst :joker: It just makes you want to play there more.

Brother Leon 04-04-2012 05:17 PM

This is why England sucks at Football.

Marc 04-04-2012 05:18 PM

Police wasting time I see.

Though I bet that kid was bloody annoying. Still no need for police intervention though :bored:

Livia 04-04-2012 06:45 PM

The action taken was over the top. However... someone kicking a ball against a wall over and over would drive me mental. Maybe it's because I don't have kids... I believe that when some people have kids it must affect the build up of wax in their ears or something because they sometimes seem oblivious to the racket their kids make.

Well in some other thread you claimed you were a right-winger, yet you don't like the Tories, and don't like the other two main parties, so what other parties on the right are there that take your fancy exactly?

UKIP? BNP?

I only lean slightly towards the right, that's because of law & order more than anything else.

Also Tories are behaving just like Labour at the moment so I don't like them, and a choice between UKIP vs BNP I would gladly have UKIP run the country anyday, BNP are a bunch of psychos.
