Battlestar Galactica

I started re-watching this (the 2003 series) today. I forgot how fantastic this was.

Anyone else love this show?

Roy Mars III 07-04-2012 08:03 PM

Yes, it's probably my second favourite scifi show ever

Gaius and Colonel Ty are two of the best characters in televison

Mystic Mock 07-04-2012 08:05 PM

I love this show, I finished my rewatch about 4 months ago and my two favourites is still Baltar and Starbuck.

I was going to give it a watch a few months ago but all the miniseries, main series and movies in random orders put me off. And people mentioned it had a cheesy ending, Lost disappointed me enough with its overly sentimental final episode.

Locke. 07-04-2012 08:12 PM

Yeah same, was gonna watch it but seen there was all sorts of spin-offs so didn't bother

Roy Mars III 07-04-2012 08:17 PM

There is a only a mini-series which needs to be watched first, and than the main show. the others don't really need to be watched

the ending is not that bad. i would say it split people 50/50 on terms of people who liked it and those that didn't

The extra movies and all that are really vital to the story tbh. You don't need to watch them, they're more about fleshing out characters and revealing things that couldn't have been revealed properly within the main series. They're just extra. I watched them all at the end and it didn't really matter.

The ending was actually really good, I won't say what happened, but the way it finished everything off really fitted the series. Some may see it as cheesy, but it was excellent in the context of the programme.

Theres only one spin off - a series called Caprica - and that was set in a completely different time to BSG. Like I said, the extra movies aren't vital, they just help to flesh out the story. The main series is one of the finest bits of TV I've ever watched. You should give it a go.

Mystic Mock 07-04-2012 08:55 PM

Caprica was not a patch on BSG.

Marsh. 07-04-2012 10:24 PM

So, what is the actual order the entire story goes (miniseries and movies included) in? I always gets different answers when I google it.

CharlieO 07-04-2012 10:50 PM

The roller coaster is fun

the first movie fits in between season 1 and 2, the last one after the series ends(iirc). The movies aren't really needed to understand the story.

The miniseries sets up the series, so that def needs to be watched

Thanks. :)
I think I'll try it when Fringe finishes next month.

I love love love Fringe! It's incredible! Battlestar Galactica is great too! :cheer2:

Mystic Mock 08-04-2012 06:30 PM

I've never got the love for Fringe, it's a poorer version of The X Files imo.

I liked the first two seasons but the last two bored me alot so i've stopped watching now, I think I stopped watching about episode 3 of season 4.

Im glad your addicted to it though as I think proper Sci Fi shows should be supported over Sci Fi shows that are really Soap Opera's (Flash Forward and Caprica im looking at you) it's just that Fringe isn't for me, but it's definitely better than Alcatraz which JJ Abrams should be ashamed of.:joker:

I've watched a few episodes of most of them except the original series.

My favourite Star Trek was Deep Space Nine on what i've saw of it, although it's definitely copied Babylon 5 on certain aspects.:joker:

That's ironic really considering the first season and parts of the second are pretty much an updated version of the X Files, and the 3rd and 4th are where it develops its own identity away from it and its own mythology.

So, the ones you liked are the ones where it compares to the X Files. lol

But that's the problem with the last two seasons for me though as they are changing how the show works and not for the better imo, it reminds me of Supernatural in that sense.

But you didn't like it for being an X Files rip off, now you don't like it because it isn't?

Personally, I love how the whole thing comes together as a cohesive whole. All of the foreshadowing and the links that they forge with the earlier episodes to bring the story full circle.
Lost was a big favourite of mine but I hated how with the last three seasons the show felt chopped and changed and moved around as opposed to a complete whole or a natural progression.

Mystic Mock 08-04-2012 08:55 PM

I can't properly describe it but I have my reasons for why I am not that keen on Fringe.

I'm not attacking you. lol. Just pointing out a few inconsistencies with what you said.
