Think back..

at points in your life and imagine how life could have turned out if you opted down an alternate path.

Its amazing and crazy just how different things could be, and how much rests on 1 decision or reaction that you make.

I do this a fair amount tbh, not in a regretful manner, just for my own amusement.

Wait until you get a few decades under your belt: it will blow your mind!

Quite a few I could think of.
  • Stupidly playing the spoiled brat and demanding to board in England rather than Switzerland. My life would have been so different. (would probably have ended up a hooker to the Apres Ski gang )
  • Not taking a wonderful job offer in Kenya because I fell in love - real love -with a guy who turned out the worst person I could ever have brought into my life
  • Then realising the arsehole of a man (above) allowed me to realise just how strong a person I really was emotionally / independantly, despite my own disbelief in myself. That proved me in good stead for the years that were to follow.
All in all - I've made bad choices, poor choices, some good choices - but I'm still here, relatively successful and have a lot to be very thankful for.

I made good choices in respect of my close friends, that I have regarded more as my family for many years.

Jords 08-04-2012 04:47 AM

I find it incredible, and LOL @ you potentially have being a hooker to the Apres Ski gang, missed out Pyra!!

I know! Damn - I could have been hob nobbing it with the hoi polloi !

That was SUCH a bad choice really. :bawling:

I reckon if I didn't get into or apply for the school i'm at now, i'd be a totally different person.

Different friends, different attitude, different grades. I'm so glad things worked out the way they have.

Ammi 08-04-2012 09:24 AM

..I always think you end up where you're supposed to
..whether that's because you make the most of your decisions..I don't know

..I really like this Zen quote......

There's a little boy and on his 14th birthday he gets a horse... and everybody in the village says, "how wonderful. The boy got a horse" And the Zen master says, "we'll see." Two years later, the boy falls off the horse, breaks his leg, and everyone in the village says, "How terrible." And the Zen master says, "We'll see." Then, a war breaks out and all the young men have to go off and fight... except the boy can't cause his legs all messed up. and everybody in the village says, "How wonderful."
......and the Zen master says, "We'll see."

...wise guy the Zen master

I watched quite an interesting documentary the other month about Parallel Universes and how every decision we make in our lives, opens up a new universe where the outcome leads to something else etc
Thus making your life different in a million ways.

It's crazy to think, it's abit like The Butterfly Effect tbh.

But yeah the documentary mentioned how some small move, like walking down a different road as opposed to another - could change your life forever, or talking to a stranger could change something in your life aswell.
It's mind blowing.

I'm a deep thinker when it comes to decisions I have made in my life. I always wonder what the other path would have brought me. But the path I have taken has so far been good enough, so I'm happy with most of the decisions I have made as I've achieved everything I have wanted to achieve.

Ammi 08-04-2012 01:22 PM

..I think the thing to do is to make the path work for you..then there can never be a bad path
..I think they all lead to the same place anyway

Livia 08-04-2012 01:52 PM

For those two poetry freaks Turtle & Ammi.

The Road Not Taken
Robert Frost.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
and sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
to where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim
because it was grassy and wanted wear;
though as for that, the passing there
had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
in leaves no feet had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less travelled by,
and that has made all the difference.

This is so true. I only met gav because I had an unlucky day on the slots, had time to kill before work, so went to meet some guy who had rang me earlier(didnt have a clue who this guy was...had given my number out when pissed) and this guy introduced me to gav the next day. If I had won that day my life would be very different now.

Yeah, I though it might be. It's a cracker. I love Robert Frost's stuff generally, my fave American poet.

Do the two paths lead to the same end....? Hmm that's too profound for me today, I'm having a day off from thinking.

I think turning down the role in Corrie has to be the worst decision of my life, while it was only an extra, anything could have come from that.

....if you didn't take it..then it probably wasn't meant for you..there's no point in regretting the past..you can't ever change it..but you do have control over your future decisions...concentrate on them

Edit: my niece was an extra in a few Harry Potter's...but it didn't lead to anything..they usually don't..all you've lost out on is a very small wage..it won't affect your future

Everything happens for a reason, I think. I'm sure you've got great things ahead of you.
