Details of ITV1 gameshow pilot Revolution have emerged that suggest it could be the broadcaster’s most ambitious attempt at an interactive gameshow to date.

Former Countdown assistant Carol Vorderman fronted the pilot, which Broadcast understands was put together by Shine TV and interactive technology specialist Yummi Media, at Elstree Film Studios at the end of March.

At the show’s heart is an iPhone and Android mobile app, currently in development, that will be synced with the programme to allow the audience to take part in real time.

Several ideas are understood to be under consideration, but one is that viewers at home pay to take part at a suggested price point of £1 per episode.

The app would give viewers a limited amount of time to answer the same questions that appear on the TV game. As each studio-based contestant is eliminated, the money they had won would go into a pot for the home players. Viewers who answered all the questions correctly would share the final pot.

ITV, Yummi and Shine all declined to comment or provide details of the format, but a source revealed that the set for the pilot was created by designer Simon Kimmel, and estimated it may have cost as much as £50,000. It is thought that some element of the set revolves, to tie in with the show’s title.

Kimmel has built sets for the likes of The Magicians, The British Comedy Awards and Through The Keyhole.

The non-TX pilot was ordered by ITV controller of entertainment John Kaye Cooper.

Channel 4 has led the way with interactive gameshows in recent years with programmes such as The Million Pound Drop Live and The Bank Job. Both have free playalong games that have been used to source contestants for the studio show.

Need a good Deal or No Deal/The Chase type show brought to Channel 5, lighten up their daytime schedule

Sounds interesting. Although surely there'd be some issues with playing along in 'real time' - the play-along game for Million Pound Drop sometimes falls behind, that'd wouldn't be very fair. Might need quite a bit of development.

Nice idea though...hopefully it's commissioned, but with someone better than Carol Vorderman as host.
