Seen as a boring character by some, its thought that rather than see Gail get back together with a past love like Martin Platt, the shock of her leaving would lead to more interest from the public.
The shows top bosses have discussed it with Helen, this storyline is just one of many being discussed for 18mths time.

Killing off a character, especially a long running one such as Gail is an obvious ratings winner.
ITV network executives have warned Coronation Streets’ producers that they must improve storylines if it wants to rival Eastenders, a show that tops ratings on a regular basis.
A Coronation Street spokesman said: ‘I can’t discuss future storylines, but we do regularly explore all kinds of possibilities for the future’.

Plus they wouldnt kill off a star for a few measly ratings, they might have done back then, now they know its not worth it

Lol it's not a true article, they didn't even get the producers name right...or sex.

Corrie would never kill off one of the old guard just for ratings, I mean the death, sure, they'd get 13m - then what? They've lost one of the long term and loyal cast members and have a hole in the show where they once were.

It must be a very old article. Eastenders is beaten in the ratings regularly by Corrie nowadays.

I dont really care about ratings,I still prefer Eastenders its down to personal taste.

Was hoping for it to be true, can't stand the woman... she looks like a deformed E.T.

A few years ago I'd have said she was annoying, but she's been funny in more recent years

I haven't really liked her character much but recently I have found her more funny than usual.
I cannot see her being killed off,perhaps once Audrey is gone from the series likely possibly she could be but I cannot see it happening before then.

They would never kill off Gail, or any other character who has been on the show for donkeys years, unless the actor decided to leave or dies in real life...

Besides that article is obviously from years ago, as the wrong producers name was quoted as well as the fact that Helen Worth is actually 61 & has been on Corrie for 38 years this year! :joker:
