Barmaid Betty, who was played by the late, great Betty Driver for 42yrs until she sadly passed away in october 2011, knew that she had inherited the pub, but kept it hidden from everyone.

Bettys shocking secret is unearthed after her friends are sorting through her personal belongings after her on screen funeral, but the revelation could cause problems for current landlady Stella Price, played by actress Michelle Collins.

Corrie producer Phil Collinson said: ‘weve waited a respectful while to say goodbye to her on-screen, but we do that in a few weeks time and it’s really brilliant and moving-she was a very much loved member of the team’.
He continues,

‘What they discover when clearing out her house is that Annie Walker, who was the landlady of the Rovers Return for 20years, actually put the rovers to Betty in her will, and Betty has carried this secret and never took it over. So she has left behind a bit of a bombshell really, certainly for Stella’.

Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow has also spoke of his intention to never retire from the show.
Appearing on ITV1s ‘This Morning’ Phil added: ‘Bill said to me he never wants to retire- I think he wants to be like Betty, and work right up until the end, so I dont wan’t to even think about that! I can’t imagine ‘Coronation Street’ without him’.
