Pray Away The Gay U.S. Wingnuts Providing Paid Staff For British Parliament
By Susie Madrak

So now that they've ruined so much of this country, they're moving onto others. Providing free interns to staff-poor legislators is a no-brainer that by the way, also happens here in the good old U.S. of A.! (Not that there could be any possible problem with underfunding staff and then handily filling those slots with donated wingnuts.) Too bad progressive groups don't have that kind of money:

A Christian charity which sponsored a conference promoting the idea that gay people can be converted to heterosexuality has funded interns for an estimated 20 MPs, including some who are now ministers in the coalition government.

The Christian Action Research and Education charity (Care) has provided staff to the parliamentary offices of Caroline Spelman, Alistair Burt and Steve Webb. In 2009 it sponsored a London conference about homosexuality and Christianity which included sessions on "mentoring the sexually broken". The event in London was also organised by Anglican Mainstream, one of the conservative Christian charities that was blocked this week from showing adverts on London buses that supported the idea that with therapy, homosexual people can become "ex-gay".

The conference featured a keynote by Joseph Nicolosi, a Californian psychologist and founder of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality. The organisers said they were "very worried about the continued progress of the gay – and in fact the LGBT – agenda across the board in the UK. Social, cultural, political and religious sectors are being targeted and most of them are capitulating".

How do I edit thread titles?

I just need the first "in" removing if mods have to do it.

Im surprised that these campaigns are allowed to go ahead yet Liam Stacey gets into loads of trouble for making racist jokes on Twitter.

And to change thread titles, go to edit, then advanced and then it should show up for you.

I know we get commented on for doing so but yet again I agree with you JF, How these daft organisations can get away with such campaigns is beyond me too.

Mind you we do have a dubious Home secretary at present as well who is thought to probably hold some homophobic views.
There was once a campaign going to get her removed as Home secretary. She does stay remarkedly quiet on matters like what this group bring out.

It's an American website, but one of the comments underneath about England made me laugh.

"I lived there twice and made some good friends. But if you are going to try and pray away the gay in England, well...I just don't think Jesus himself would have that much prayer."

Hmm... she does sound dodgy, but I could accept these campaigns more if the Government didn't have selective free speech.

Let me tell you what those poor bloody interns will be doing... They will be filing, answering the phone, making the tea and all the other sh*t jobs the rest of the staff don't want to do. If they take the initiative the MP will go mental and tell them it isn't their place. If they don't take the initiative the MP will accuse them of not being able to think on their feet. They will have no power and definitely no say in anything. MPs generally don't think anyone knows better then they do, and to imagine an unpaid intern - or even a highly paid one - could have any sway with an MP is... well, let's just say it's not very likely.
