Grace Dent threatens Twitter troll with unemployment

Quote:

When Mufadal Jiwaji sent TV critic Grace Dent an insulting tweet during her appearance on Sunday night’s Have I Got News For You he probably thought it was a throwaway witty comment which might amuse his handful of followers.
He didn’t realise that she was a client of the PR firm he works for and that it could end up losing him his job.

He commented, “@gracedent reminds me of a girlfriend I once had. By girlfriend I mean that time I accidentally made love to an ugly abhorrent horse.” And while it was written in better English than most trolling comments, it was just as unfunny to the person on the receiving end.

With 112K followers I don’t know how much of this sort of abuse Dent has to put up with herself, but something led her to take a moment to look this guy up and find out who is. And she discovered that he works for PR firm Hill+Knowlton, of whom she is a client. Cue massive climbdown from Juwaji.

@gracedent: “I’m wondering, as a public relations person for a firm I work with, what your thinking was in sending me this message?

@mufadal: “it was naive and ill-warranted. I won’t delete it, as I ought to bare the full brunt of my idiocy.” [Not such great English]

@gracedent: “You’ll bear the brunt of your idiocy at 10am tomorrow morning when you’re unemployed. Good luck.”

Thoughts? Fair, or too far?

Pathetic, ruin someone's career because you were jokingly insulted on Twitter, being on the receiving end of things like this is part and parcel of being a well known figure in the public eye

What a bitch. Given that she makes a living slagging off people's work you'd think she'd have thicker skin.

InOne 16-04-2012 02:27 PM

Don't mess with Grace Dent, that is the moral of the story.

Scarlett. 16-04-2012 02:30 PM

She's a client of the company he works for, which is a PR company, and he does the exact opposite of what a PR company is supposed to do. Sounds fair tbh.

Z 16-04-2012 02:32 PM

Considering his line of work, he should have known better. If he was in an entirely unrelated job then she'd have had no chance of doing anything to him, everyone's entitled to their opinion - but he's in PR, she's in PR and at his company, he made a dumb move and I guess these are the consequences. Interested to hear if he will be fired or not.

Grace Dent :worship:

MTVN 16-04-2012 03:06 PM

I don't see why it matters that much what he does, not like he sent the tweet from the company account, can't people keep their work and personal lives separate to some degree?

Kazanne 16-04-2012 03:10 PM

it would be really nasty of her to lose this person their job,not everyone thinks she is as wonderful as she does.

Marc 16-04-2012 03:11 PM

I don't agree with the whole 'punish them for what they say on Twitter' like that guy with the Muamba tweets, though it was ridiculous and disgusting, they shouldn't be prosecuted for it!

I agree with this, it's not like he was insulting her while he was working, and everyone has insulted somebody else in the past and have never been punished so why is he?

King Gizzard 16-04-2012 03:13 PM

She does come across as a cow anytime she speaks. This is a bit pathetic

Will probably struggle to find another job in the industry. He did explain himself as well

Niamh. 16-04-2012 03:13 PM

To be fair though, an employee of a PR firm shouldn't be so stupid

We'd need 438989438943 new prisons if every offensive racist tweet was prosecuted. Heavy heavy fines and to be sacked from whatever you do is enough

I mean Sickipedia would create 10 new prisons alone

King Gizzard 16-04-2012 03:17 PM

yeah, however wrong the guy being racist towards muamba was to do what he did, he was victimized and probably one of only a few that will lose everything because of it

MTVN 16-04-2012 03:17 PM

It's pretty hypocritical of Dent as well considering she's often mocking and insulting people as part of her job, I guess she only doesn't like it when she's on the receiving end

Marc 16-04-2012 03:21 PM

I've heard she loves to be on the receiving end tbh :idc:

Livia 16-04-2012 03:22 PM

He works for a PR firm. And not just any old PR firm, one where Grace Dent is a client. Maybe, considering his complete lack of common sense, he ought to have been thinking of a career change anyway, the bloody fool.
