Does Betty really own the Rovers Return?

Read all about it here

Not sure what the real legal position would be now but an interesting storyline can come from this one.

I think it's stupid. Reading the comments on DS they're all saying Annie Walker never owned the pub, she was the manager but it wasn't hers to pass on in a will. lol

They're all kicking off that they're dicking with the shows history.

Yep, Newton and Ridley were the owners until 1995, they then sold to Jack and Vera, Annie only ever owned the tenancy, which she gave to her son, who then sold it to pay off her debts.

Well if she owned the tenancy, then has left a codicil to a will or some legal document that indicates her wishes after her death to be that Betty got the rights to that, then although maybe nothing can come of it now, her son Billy may not have had the rights to originally sell the tenancy.

After nearly 30 years and so many changes to the Rovers,it is unlikely this document can stand up legally but if she 'owned' the tenancy and this document wasn't acted on at the time of her death then it may be possible at least for some compensatory element to be in order for Betty's estate.

An odd one but it's surprising the writers have introduced such a storyline if there is no mileage in it.

Great post. I really like the photo at the end, really great idea to keep it there permanently.

But I lol'd at "Heart attacks can happen on any street" on that website. I don't know why.

I am glad this storyline has been cut off tonight, it was a bit farcical and could likely never have stood up in law anyway.

Cheers :p

I think that advert is actually and official one from the BHS, who are launching a special ad campaign during Monday night's Corrie to tie in, so they must have asked Flaming Nora (owner/editor), if she'd put the ad on the site lol
