well it's my understanding that all king's and queens are considered the head of the Anglican church, right the royals of england are like the "pope" of that church. that's my understanding. am i wrong?

Well I'm just quoting wikipedia but he is apparently "one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic (Western and Eastern Rites), Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, and the Oriental Orthodox churches", he's a patron Saint of loads of countries

okay, so he was back when the roman's conquered england, back when yu guys were part of the roman catholic empire. i understand now.

Long before the Anglican church even existed.

It would be nice if the day was celebrated the way the Irish (and the rest of the world) celebrate St Patrick's Day. Instead, we allow racist knuckle-heads to hijack our flag and make nothing of our own Patron Saint's day. Shame, really.
