newham council - social cleansing 24.4.12

Newham council - social cleansing 24.4.12

i can see the problem,
stock dose not supply demand,
this is a advert for the B-N-P,
because Newham council made the wrong command.
to me this is simple,
its similar to me wanting a Ferrari,
and if i was looking to drive it,
i would not book it in at the safari.
there is no more room,
we are busting at the seams,
Newham Council have to send residents away,
is it time we build on the belt protecting greens.
solve the problem UK,
from immigration to birth control to building more stock,
because just like in rush hour,
UK housing is becoming gridlock.

Livia 24-04-2012 10:38 PM

It's nothing to do with overcrowing.

I come from Newham originally. The reason Newham Council cannot house the people they're trying to send across the country is that there is a cap on housing benefit and since the Olympic Park has been built, and the new shops and apartments have arrived, rents have skyrocketed, even higher than the rest of London. Newham Council are trying to move people out of Newham into areas where housing is cheaper. After years and years of deprivation in an area where wartime bombsites still exited until the 1980s, suddenly the Olympic regeneration arrived. But all its meant for the indiginous people of Newham is that they are now priced out of their own homes and rich people are moving in while the unemployed and key workers on lower wages - teachers, nurses, paramedics... cannot afford to rent a place.

Incidentally, your mention of the BNP was in very poor taste. This issue doesn't have anything to do with immigration, race or the morons that makeup the BNP.

Mrluvaluva 24-04-2012 10:49 PM

I was reading about this earlier. With the surge in rental prices within the Newham area, and the recent caps on housing benefit, many families are struggling more to survive on state benefits and will be forced out of their homes as they cannot afford the prices that are being demanded in those areas. This will become more commonplace I imagine. While it is unfortunate that people may have to relocate from areas that they have lived in for some years, many having lived there all their lives, it must be hard for councils to find people in need sufficient necessary living accommodation if it is in short supply.

It's quite sad though that many will have to leave their homes because of this through no fault of their own.

thesheriff443 24-04-2012 10:57 PM

councils are to blame when you think of them paying for familes to stay in mansions in posh areas for years

I lived on the Isle of Dogs for 8 years until a couple of years ago, and it was the same there. There were people who had lived there all their lives and it was a poor and neglected area, and then there was this property boom, and an influx of a different kind of person. It caused a lot of resentment to some extent.

Omah 24-04-2012 11:16 PM

The Olympics seems to be causing a lot of problems for ordinary people while the backers, builders, promoters and sponsors are making a packet out of it .....

IIRC, even the word "Olympic" is a registered trade mark now and may not be used by non-related businesses .....

Yes, I'm not surprised at the resentment. It was the same when Beckton was built around some of the poorest people in Newham.

Yes the Olympics are going to upset the poor of London.

Kizzy 25-04-2012 09:39 AM

You labour under the illusion that all the rich people are down south and all the poor people are up north. And there is already a north/south pay divide. Key workers cannot afford to rent property in London because it is just too expensive, so it's hard to get teachers and nurses. But you seem happy for key workers in the south to suffer so long as those in the north don't seem to be earning less than those in the south.

Incidentally, Newham Council, the one that's trying to send the poor people up north, are Labour.

The table shows the seepage of wealth westwards along the Thames corridor through the Cotswolds to the West Country, and the rise of seaside favourites such as Salcombe. It also pinpoints the star towns that have risen on the strength of their beauty alone - Petworth in Sussex, for example, and Ambleside in Cumbria. Are you saying that there are no poor people in London? Is that what you're saying? And DO try to just answer rather than post a load of links and other people's lists.

I'm saying that most of the wealth of the country is generated and resides in the South - the "wealth" of the Northern "residents" is generated from Premier Division football and second-home owners, the former being peripatetic anyway and the latter already living in the South or abroad .....

Unlike other posters I try to substantiate my assertions with facts or at least related data .....

You said "You labour under the illusion that all the rich people are down south" - well, apparently MOST are, so no real "illusion" there, then ..... :nono:

More people live in the south... and it's a MASSIVE generalisation to say that the wealth of northern residents is generated from footballers and second home-owners. That IS what you said... isn't it. What about the rich people who are northern by birth and who live in the south. Do you dispise them with as much fervour as you dispise rich southerners?

You're skating around the issue anyway. This thread is about Newham. Which is in London, and is full of poor people.

Apparently, full of "ethnically diverse" poor people with a high fertility rate :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newham

Quote:

Newham has the highest young population and one of the lowest White British populations in the country according to the 2001 Census. The borough has the second highest percentage of Muslims in Britain (24.3%).

When using Simpson's Diversity Index on 10 aggregated ethnic groups, the 2001 census identified Newham as the most ethnically diverse district in England and Wales, with 9 wards in the top 15. However, when using the 16 ethnic categories in the Census so that White Irish and White Other ethnic minorities are also included in the analysis, Newham becomes the 2nd most ethnically diverse borough with 6 out of the top 15 wards, behind Brent with 7 out of the top 15 wards.

The main ethnic groups are whites and Asians. Based on 2006 estimates by the Office for National Statistics, over 39% of the population is white, of which 32.6% are British, 1.1% are Irish, and 5% are from other white backgrounds. Approximately 38% of the population is Asian, of which 10.2% are Indian, 7% are Bangladeshi, 13.9% are Pakistani, and 5.1% are from other Asian backgrounds. Approximately 20% of the population is black, of which 6.5% are Caribbean, 12.4% are African, and 1.1% are from other black backgrounds. In addition, 1.6% of the population is Chinese, and 2.6% are from other ethnic groups. Newham has the highest fertility rate in the country at 2.87, as of 2009, compared to the national average of 1.95.
Additional info :

Quote:

The borough was formed by merging the former area of the Essex county borough of East Ham and the county borough of West Ham as a borough of the newly formed Greater London, on 1 April 1965.

The council is actively campaigning to have Newham officially considered part of Inner London for all purposes in order to increase its level of government grant by £60 million.

There is, surprisingly, a directly elected mayor of Newham
Essex in London - if Newham becomes Inner, will Basildon become Outer ..... :puzzled:

See, this is what happens when someone gets all their information from Google. Newham is not in Essex. Newham is in London. I come from Newham. My relatives were were bombed out of West Ham and Canning Town... which at the time were in LONDON, although Newham had not yet been formed. To suggest Newham isn't even London shows how little you know about the subject.

You suck all the fun out of a debate because you cannot debate. All you can do is post other people's words and argue. It's boring, very boring. I'm going to ignore you from now on. Please don't quote my posts and associate them with your nonsense in future.

In 1965 the 28 metropolitan boroughs were almagamated into 12 Inner London boroughs and joined together with 20 new Outer London boroughs (a mixture of 3 county boroughs and numerous urban districts) to create Greater London. The new boroughs took in the rest of Middlesex (which then ceased to exist as a county) and parts of the neighbouring counties of Surrey, Kent, Essex and Hertfordshire. The City of London remained a separate entity.

Okay. So your opinion actually is that all the rich people live down south and all the poor people live up north. In which case I don't have anything to discuss with you on this particular point.
