Yet another moral dilemma for Thursday.......
You are living with your family in a scarce, poverty-stricken country. Where you live, there is no food bank, and you and your family are starving to death. One day, you are out trying to find some sort of food to nourish your family, when something miraculous (or problematic) occurs. You find a huge sack full of money that has fallen off the back of a truck. You realize this would be a fortune to your family, but there is one obvious catch. This money has to belong to someone else, and to take it and use it for your family would be stealing. You could explain your situation to the rightful owner of the money, but how can you know he’ll be a generous person? Would you:
a. Return the money to its rightful owner or b. Take the money and use it to help your family |
Take it, tbh. If I was starving and it was lying around, it'd be difficult to be moral about it.
|
Take the money. It would play on my conscience but I'd live with that to help my family.
|
..yes that would be my first reaction..but then I have to think..that money wouldn't last forever..and then what..what would my limitations be..what would I do to keep surviving..maybe I would lose all my boundaries..I mean it's never going to happen again..so would I be prepared to hurt someone next time.....
..this is a naff expression..but what would it do to my soul..who would I become.... ...this is what I love about moral dilemmas...I'm going to have to think about this all day |

If the rightful owner could afford to have a full sack of money tranported insecurely -they can afford to lose it. Starving people come first. |
I would take the money without a second thought. It's vital for my family's survival.
|
In that scenario, knowing I and my family were starving to death, then surival instincts would take over and it would be clear that whoever the money belonged to had more than likely plenty anyway, so I would hold onto it to help my family.
It would run out eventually, true, however it would have bought time for maybe better times or better planning to survive further. |
If my family were starving to death I would keep the money. That was a really easy one.
|
Take it and feed my family
|
Take the money, help your own family to live.

Ammi you need to pull your socks up missy! Give us a difficult one!! |
Your and your families survival is worth more than the money. Take it.
|
Pretend to look for the owner, fail to find him and then take it
|
Take it and wouldn't think twice.
Do what you gotta do to live. |

My family is starving and someone has a sack of money? That they LOST?
I'd keep it, I wouldn't even have to think about it. |
To be honest, I'd take it even if my family weren't starving.
If you don't know who the owner is, I think it's fair game. If you don't take it, someone else will. |
take it without a doubt
|
if my family was starving to death i would be out stealing to keep them alive let alone handing that money back.ffs
|
B every time
|
Take the money most definitely!
|
Keep the money. Even if my family wasnt starving and I found a sack of cash on the street tomorrow...I would keep it. Anyone reckless enough to LOSE a whole sack of cash, clearly can afford to lose it :hmph:

i would take half of it, and turn in half of it, i would stash half of it at my house or wherever i could hide it best, and then turn in the other half and say i found it this way. i;d say i found the bag already half empty. i would wait at least 5 years before i spent any of the money i'd hidden. i'd use those 5 years to filter it out slowly to someone i trust in another country. |
Take it without a second thought. #hoodlyf

Taking half and turning the other half in could turn out bad too anyway, maybe whoever lost it reported to the police how much they lost...and then only half turns up investigations woud probably be made. Much safer to keep it all (or thats what I would tell myself :D ) |
