Why is Vanity a Bad Thing?
 

I just got called me "vain" with hate.
I know I'm vain but why is that a bad thing, its not as though im hurting anyone.

Nothing wrong with being vain, it's the arrogance that normally comes with it.

I wouldnt say vanity is a bad thing really...knowing you are goodlooking or whatever is fine

Its when it crosses to obvious arrogance where you think you are better than everyone else and it shows...that I dont like.

But everyones different I guess.

Get called it constantly too, some teacher the other day called me an Arrogant Prat.

Not sure what people's problem is with being vain, probably jealousy.

It only becomes a problem when you become conceited. Expecting favourability because of your looks, thinking you're better than people, becoming narcissistic etc.

I suppose everyone is vain to some extent because of how we choose to dress, use makeup, hair products and toiletries.

Because people think vain people are arrogant and look down there noses of the same sex.

Well that's what i've came across anyway.

I got that a lot by an ex...Everytime I looked in a mirror, its a control thing and affects your self confidence... ignore it.

..I'ts fine to take care of yourself..make an effort and be confident with your looks....but I don't think anything in life is a good thing if it's excessive

..narcissism for instance would then become a disorder

I like to look in the mirror and see how I look...apparently that's being vain. I don't go around claiming I am perfect in every way and stuff so I'm not really arrogant about it. I don't see that as a problem.

I think its a bad thing when you get a good looking person who lets all the praise resulting from that go to their head. There are so many people in my school who act all superior because they're attractive. I hate it.

There's a difference between looking in the mirror to see how you look though imo. I look in the mirror to check my appearance because I'm a really self conscious person. I wouldn't call it vanity. Vanity would be checking yourself in the mirror just because you think you look good.

I only look in the mirror if I don't look psychotic enough lol.

When I walk past a mirror I usually check my face out, tell myself about how hot i am, and then i will usually take my top of and check my body out.

I thought people like you were only fictional. :/

in my defense i am trying to build an athletic body so i need to make sure im going in the right direction

I'm pretty vain tbh. I think mine stems more through insecurity as I used to be very fat, and only really took care of my looks once I lost weight and people commented on how good I looked. I try to be modest about my looks, but I'm definitely vain.
