Queen's advisers tell her to drop 'empire' from honours
 

This was debated on Yesterday on Radio5
and this morning on the dull bbc1 breakfast.

Order British Empire could change to
Order British Excellence.
It would not be a Major problem.

OBE only started 1917

Those that have the empire original keep it, of course.

They will mean the same thing.

The Empire Version will go up in Value, as well.

I think that's fair enough, we're not an empire anymore so why still dish out medals that are no longer true to the times?

Well, for me its more the awards that need to be got rid of when you see some of the people who get them and for what they get them for too.

Most people give to Charities,that shouldn't be a reason for these awards,the people who get them for such are giving out of their vast excess of wealth,the poorer who give to charities are doing so from the little they have.

As was said above though, the Empire has not been relevant for a long while now so this move has been a long time coming to even just be talked about doing.

The word "Excellent" is already used, since the Order is composed of five classes in civil and military divisions. In descending order of seniority, these are:
Knight or Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE)
Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) or Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (DBE)
Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE)
Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)
Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE)

There are more than 100,000 living members of the Order throughout the world who, no doubt, will be pleased at that suggestion ..... ;)

..I don't mind the Royal family..they pull in lot's of tourists which is good for the economy but I do think some of the old traditions could do with a little updating....
..I would start off with the National Anthem..it's absolutely dreadful and not uplifting at all imo..we need something really emotional to help us feel patriotic
