North Carolina bans Gay marriage

Quote:

North Carolina
voters approved a constitutional amendment yesterday defining marriage
solely as a union between a man and a woman, becoming the latest US
state to effectively slam the door shut on same-sex marriages.

With most of the precincts reporting yesterday, unofficial returns showed the amendment passing with about 61 per cent of the vote to 39 per cent against. North Carolina is the 30th state to adopt such a ban on gay marriage.

******** :bored:

They are legit scum of the earth and should die already, or get their heads out of their rear-end, if death is a tad harsh.

I wonder what they have against it? It's not as if they take marriage all that seriously there anyway, the divorce rate is so high

Marsh. 09-05-2012 02:32 PM

Quite rightly too. :hmph:

Sounds like the amendment passed despite the majority of the voters being in favour.

InOne 09-05-2012 02:36 PM

It was already banned but now it's in the constitution. So could be another 20 years before it's looked at again.

Eh the amendment was essentially to ban same-sex marriage, that's what 61% of people were in favour of

Oh, I presumed the vote was on those in favour of same-sex marriage and those against. Wow, I'm actually surprised America is so against it tbh.

Civil partnership is better than nothing. Apart from the name, it's essentially all of the same rights of a marriage.

bbfan1991 09-05-2012 02:49 PM

What a joke and what a shame that there will always be still some bigoted views around. I am straight and believe that gay people have as much right to get married as straight people because it is about declaring love.

Marriages nowadays mean nothing in terms of vows because of the amount of people divorcing quickly or the rush decisions couples make but it is their life, although fair play to couples that have been married for lots and lots of years through the highs and lows:).

Why doesnt Obama or whoever just make it legal in the whole country :/ who cares if some people don't like it.. not everyone liked having a black president, but they got over it, and would get over same sex marriage as well

Not everyone is going to listen to him.

Samuel. 09-05-2012 03:17 PM

Wow. I thought America was gradually getting better with homosexuality.

Because States would get really pissed off at having their right to decide things like this taken away

Marriage is sacred you see, Two men or women can't get married because it isn't right but Kim Kardashian can marry for money and that's all fine and dandy because she married a man.

Good family values and all that.

This

Marriage (to me anyway) is more of a religious thing. I dont actually understand why any gay couple would want a part in something that demonises them for their sexual preferance anyway.

Can straight people get civil partnerships? I would actually rather have that than marriage
