Awful dilemma (if you arent sick of them by now :p )
Your partner was your childhood sweetheart. You have been together for around 20 years. You recently had a child together. Unfortunately the child was born with a terminal illness, meaning they are unlikely to see past their 10th birthday. Your partner has no health problems whatsoever.
You are going on a visit to see your parents when a lorry crashes into the side of your car. The car is absolutely wrecked. You manage to get out of the car to see smoke coming from the wreckage. You know you have only enough time to save either your partner or your child and drag them to safety before the car explodes. Both are still breathing and have only minor injuries. For some reason there is noone else around who could help you and neither your partner, nor your child are capable of freeing themselves (the get out clauses some may use :p ) What do you do? (Apologies for the morbidness of this. But these are meant to be difficult) |
Has to be my child. The urge to protect your child out ways all other imo, also, as the father of the child, I'm pretty sure he would want me to do that too. If I were in the wreck and my husband saved me and left my son/daughter die, I don't think I'd ever forgive him.
|
I would save the woman as the child isn't exactly gonna live for much longer.
|
This one actually has me in knots so much that I cant answer. I know this is cheating as its my thread, but I dont want to put too much thought into it because its quite upsetting me just thinking about it

Why do these all have to be so goddamn morbid?
Save my partner, no question about it. |
This is an almighty tough one. Had there not been the terminal illness aspect to it, then I would undoubtedly save my child. After deliberation, I think even in this scenario my instinct would be to save my child, and as time would be of the essence that's what I'd do. What a terrible dilemma though Vicky, toughest yet.

My partner, definitely
|
-wonders if it's generally a male thing to save the partner, generally a female thing to save the baby-

I don't actually know. How old is the child at the time of the wreckage?

It might change if I had a kid but I just can't see myself letting my partner die who I've been with 20 years, and intend to be with the rest of my life, over a kid I've only been a Dad to for 2 years and is likely to die soon in any case
|
I think you would owe it your child to let them live their life, however short it might be

Too morbid to consider but I would think in that moment you wouldn't really allow yourself time to think. Instinct would kick in and you'd go for the child. I'm not a parent yet but I would imagine you'd do anything for them no matter what. I'd like to think my partner would do the same. Whether they had 2 months, 2 years or 20 years left to live I wouldn't allow them such a horrible death. It would be my job to save them.

this is one of those things you can't answer unless you're going through it. Its easy to say oh my child oh my partner but unless it's happening. But maybe I would remain in the car too so we die together :bawling:
