Rude People.

If you've never spoken to someone before it's really rude to IM someone and ask them to help you in your games.

I don't mind helping people that i've spoken to before on the forum with the games, but some people are actually IM'ing me and asking for help in games and they've never even spoken to me before.

Does this happen to anyone else? I find it INCREDIBLY rude.

King Gizzard 13-05-2012 08:12 AM

You tell them Alex

Kazanne 13-05-2012 08:20 AM

It really doesn't bother me,but I chuck money in beggars hats too, lol.

Niamh. 13-05-2012 09:47 AM

I wouldn't mind if someone did it to me but I generally stick to asking people I speak to if I need help in games

joeysteele 13-05-2012 09:50 AM

I don't find it rude or invasive at all, we are all members here, interaction is part of being on the forum and I quite like to think some other member/s may think I am approachable enough to contact me and ask me.

I have found it is also a good way for members to start chatting too,if some don't like the approaches, then just delete the message,it takes barely 2 seconds to do so and ignore them.

The only thing I worry about is when a few ask me for votes/help in a game and I can only help one but really like them all.
No,I don't find it rude, I actually find it the opposite.

Kizzy 13-05-2012 09:57 AM

You're not very tolerant of new people are you alex?....:)

Tom4784 13-05-2012 10:16 AM

I do dislike it when people ask for votes and such, it takes the fun out of the game I think.

Forums = No way at all like real life

Kizzy 13-05-2012 10:45 AM

Really... In what way do they differ? You may just have a warped perception of real life nathan.

no he has not!
in forum land you can have a conversation with someone you would never speak to in real life
your opinion or mine carries no real weight on the forum

Scarlett. 13-05-2012 10:58 AM

People ask me but I usually end up forgetting to do what they asked cause I'm busy slaying Stormcloaks in Skyrim xD

well when i see i have an IM from someone that i've never talked to, and their first communication with me is not even a "hello , how are you?" it's just asking me to do something for them, i find that rude.

I have no problem helping with these games with people that have at least said "hi" at some point to me, but when it's someone that has never bothered before in any way, then no, it's not okay.

I don't think i'm being unreasonable saying that if you've never even said Hi before, you should not be asking me for a favour.

Not sure I can go the whole way with forums not being real life, they are a form of a part of life not made up of fictitious people and topics, they exist.

I for instance have found since joining on quite a few issues, people on here have really made me think again on several issues, some of which I have held strong opinions on too in the past, moreso than people around me even.
Although it's true we don't know the members on here, we do come to know 'of' them and then with interaction the forum and it's topics raised and debated on,serious and light hearted become a lot more relevant than I first thought they would be.
Then there are chat and games where you have the chance of participating or supporting one or more other members in the 'games'.

Hence why, whether I have spoken to the member or not, if anyone approaches me for help in a vote or a task then I see them not as being rude or intrusive but as another member I then have an opportunity to communicate with and to me anyway, that is all good.

lostalex 13-05-2012 11:46 AM

all the people that say they don't mind must be the same type of people that just automatically accept any friend requests.

that's not me and never will be.

I can totally see where you are coming from on that lostalex.

I personally do accept friend requests,I am really interested in people though, although there are a small few I likely wouldn't accept the friendship request of.
That is though the great thing as to the forum, members can choose who they want to communicate with, I for instance get largely ignored by many on here but that doesn't bother me.

As you point out, you can choose whose friend requests you accept and whose you don't even without saying so to them,as with task and vote requests, they can be ignored and deleted with no reference back to the member even.

That is the great thing to me, about the forum, you can be as active/inactive, as communicative or interactive as you like. Everyone is free to be a member and be as individual and true to themselves as they wish to be.

Josy 13-05-2012 11:57 AM

It doesnt bother me if someone I rarely talk to asks for help tbh.

I do agree with this though, if its part of the task/game to ask a couple of people to help you then fair enough but when its just basically spamming everyone who's online's pms or walls begging for votes then I think it ruins the game, I don't think it's really fair winning a game that way.
