Blondie thread

I don't think I have ever seen one on here? I think it's about time. Debbie and the band deserve one surely...

Any fans?

Shaun 30-05-2012 11:35 PM

how can anyone not be a fan of Blondie is the more important question

Kizzy 30-05-2012 11:36 PM

agreed

joeysteele 30-05-2012 11:38 PM

The song I really like of them wasn't that big a hit apparantly, it's 'Union City Blue',they were a really good group though, before my time but I have listened to their singles and album work.
'Parallel Lines' is a really great album.

Kizzy 30-05-2012 11:40 PM

heart of glass is my fave :)

Union City Blue was a significant hit. I don't know what chart position it achieved offhand, but it remains one of my favorites from that time, along with Dreaming.

HoG is probably my favourite too, that or Rapture

I am told it got to 13 or 14, that was good but I think it deserved much higher than that.

I really like Dreaming as well, in fact you starting this thread off,I think I will be now likely be playing their CDs tomorrow.

"Shayla" from Eat To The Beat.

1979 :

In the UK, Union City Blue achieved 13, while Dreaming achieved 2.

Of course, earlier that year, the band had two No 1's with Heart Of Glass and Sunday Girl.

'Love at the Pier' from 'Plastic Letters' is another one I like a lot for some reason.

There was a great Documentary on the BBC about Debbie and the Band

I adore Blondie, easily one of my favourite bands.

Plastic Letters is my favourite Blondie album, underrated and flawless.

Some other favourites

Bollo 31-05-2012 12:10 AM

I went to see them live a few years ago when they did the comeback with Maria, they were good but Debbie got really narked that people wanted to hear their old stuff rather than the new stuff

It must be hard when you have been going so long and you are righting new stuff that you want to get played. Bands like Genesis have the same problem and they seem to do a medley of old stuff which the crowd go wild about.

I have some of the bands new albums and I like them lots, but the older stuff has more of an edge. I can understand why people still want them to perform it.

Mrluvaluva 31-05-2012 12:28 AM

I agree with Dezzy. Plastic Letters is most probably my favourite album.

Parallel Lines is a totally unflawed album though. Picture This, Hanging On The Telephone, Sunday Girl....Pretty Baby is a favorite though.

Live version

I must watch that later if I have not seen it already.

I watched a really interesting documentary too last week. It was all about the dance music scene around New York in the late 70's and it concentrated on the disco and club scene and the significance of clubs like The Warehouse and the birth of "house music". It was really compelling. I knew there was a backlash on disco at the time after the likes of Saturday Night Fever brought it into the mainstream, but I didn't realise the extent of it in America, which basically sent it back underground.

Atomic.

Mrluvaluva 31-05-2012 01:00 AM

Admit it James. You just loved her in the Vulture t-shirt, bin bag and marigolds.

If you have it is worth watching it again. It was amazing how the record companies would have drugs delivered to their hotel rooms with flowers. The whole thing is so honest.
